Moments that made me feel alive... my time in Lake Ontario

Lake Ontario (Moments That Made Me Feel Alive)
(July 11, 2013)

I found myself in an unfamiliar room, yet I felt a bit of the coziness surround me, the kind I feel when I am in the comfort of my own bed, my own room. My eyes still tired from the night haven't fully adjusted to the surroundings, yet I could make out the sun's rays peeking through the blinds and the Lake Ontario shimmering with light. I could hear the faint chirping of the birds as they sang their lullabies. I slowly got out of bed, opened the door, and crept through to the outdoors feeling at piece and like I can take on the world.

This was an assignment I had to write for my writing class in five minutes time. I had to write about a moment that made me feel alive. Please let me know your thoughts on this. This piece has not been edited.

Here is the edited version written July 16, 2013:

I slowly opened my eyes and found myself in an unfamiliar room, on a couch that was very uncomfortable and creaked as I moved. I looked around me and noticed that the walls were painted blue instead of the usual lilac that I was used to. Many paintings that I’ve never seen before hung on the walls. There was a roof above me instead of a ceiling and a brown fan that was spinning slowly above my head. In front of me were many large windows with blinds half open. Looking through them I could see the sun’s rays peeking through, casting shadows on the floor and walls. In the distance a lake was shimmering with light. I could hear what sounded like the faint chirping of the birds around me. It all seemed like a dream. Where was I? What was I doing here? Nothing made any sense.

I was still not fully awake so I took my time getting up from the pull out couch. I put on my slippers and made my way toward the sliding door. As I walked I noticed two brown doors to the right of me. I had no idea why they were closed and what was behind them, yet I walked slowly so as not to make any noise.

As soon as I opened the door and stepped outside a cool breeze blew past me. The birds’ chirping was no longer faint but now alive with beautiful melodies. There was indeed a lake in front of me and not just any lake but Lake Ontario. Around me were rows and rows of growing grapes and other fruits and vegetables. I was on a farm near Lake Ontario, the green house I was living in right above the majestic waters. It was a dream come true . I was at peace and the happiest I’ve ever felt in a very long time. The powerful energy ran through my entire body and I felt alive. I felt like I can take on the world and conquer it. If only I could stay in this place forever, surrounded by the magnificent beauty of nature that embraced me and instilled in my heart a sense of greater power and a welcoming peace that only this kind of setting can bring…

Another little burst of story telling that gives a lot.

Note: My eyes[,] still tried[tired] from the night[,] haven't fully adjusted to the surroundings[.] [Y]et.....

Note: would the birds be singing lullabies if you have just got out of bed? ...maybe 'melodies'?

Like this too :o)

Review update:

This delivers a wonderful moment of serenity. Beautifully enhanced from the original text.

NOTE: Where was I ...and what was I doing here?
It isn't a good idea to start a sentence with 'and' - The use of the three dots gives you a longer pause than a comma, without breaking the sentence - Not entirely correct grammatically, but all writers use a little poetic licence.

Nice job! :o)
