Part 12

When she arrived at the studio, Chris lifted her up and whirled her round, his eyes shining. She was excited for him but she had yet to tell him she wasn’t coming. That was not going to be easy.

They spent the afternoon together, making the most of their last moments. The rest of the band wished her well and Darcy saw them off, waving madly and doing her best to smile.

As she drove away from the studio, Darcy prayed that she had made the right decision. It felt right. She would not want to be holding Chris’ back in any way, and she knew she wanted different things for her own future. It had to be right!

To see such sorrow cross love’s face

To hear enchantment fall from voice

And know that uttered words did cause

The pain for which she’d made her choice

With tears that fall from violet eyes

The lovers say their sad goodbyes

In solitude the bird must face

Another ending, sad but true

It’s just another learning curve

As life takes on a different cue

Look far beyond the hue and cry

For destiny can never lie

In the months that followed, Darcy found herself a third job to take up another evening and her afternoon off. She was kept pretty busy and had precious little time to dwell on the fact that she was alone once again. Although she often wondered how Chris was doing.

Then one evening, when she was working in the bar, the chef dragged her through to the kitchen and told her to listen, His radio was on and the band were playing a number from their album.  Butterflies fluttered, haphazardly through Darcy’s chest. They had really made it! Their music was being played on a prominent radio station! It was fantastic!

Willingly the heart bestows

The pleasure found in soul mate’s joy

Together they were solid rock

And still, they’re that same girl and boy

Miles apart in separate lives

Yet way down deep their bond survives

Later that night, Darcy called Chris to congratulate him. It was great to hear him so excited, as he told her of all that he and the band had been doing.

In that moment, although happy for him, Darcy knew she had made the right decision.
