On Sunday June 8th - bought bunch of fresh fruits & veggies . Redners.
For 10 days made a slurpee each morning & drank it. Most actually had nice taste. Each day I varied the ingredients just a tad.
Strawberries - blueberries - banana - orange - apple - green seedless grapes
Baby Spinach leaves - Baby Kale leaves - tomatoes - dried ginger -
Metamucil - Red Protect (a powder = 10 veggies antioxidants + strawberry flavor) - sometimes small pinch of Dill weed - or - Basil ... Raw sunflower seeds ... and 100% Cranberry juice.
Most of the time the blueberries caused a color I called "Purple Passion."
By the third or fourth day I realized that the Metamucil turned into a gel & stuck to the bottom of the glass. So I switched to putting it into my coffee or tea instead. One teaspoon daily for Fiber.
I had also purchased some Quinoa (keen-wha) - and had first time ever in a bowl with the vegetable seasoning that came with it. Actually, a very nice taste. One time last week I put about a tablespoon of it, uncooked, into a slurpee. After telling my niece Bernie about it, found out that was a No-No.
The small hard granules would absorb moisture in the stomach and then puff up. DUH? Wadda I know?
Also bought a box of ALL-BRAN cereal for more fiber and bran and psilium seed husks. Had it twice so far, once mixed wth frosted mini-wheats - was pretty good.
Meanwhile, Wednesday night my car Transmission went up on the Beltway, 695, and limped it home . 20 mph. Code read-out said the Shifter Solenoid was bad. Car in shop now, if correct, will cost $670. May not know until Monday?
Wednesday evening's thunderstorm knocked out the electric power in the entire mobile park complex. Also killed my home phone landline. That's still out! So I can't get online with computer, but can use cell phone. Power was restored sometime Thursday.
My Buddy, Louie, took me home and I decided to make a slurpee because I couldn't in the morning, with no power. So I put all the ingredients into my 'Magic Bullet' turned it on, and ... Whoosh! After only about a minute of partial mixing, IT DIED!
I drank the slurpee, but some of the green leaves were stuck to the bottom of the cup, and I had to chew them up, so I did!
Just tried to test blender with just water. It spun fine, and created a little whirlpool. Added two strawberries. Spin spin, spin ... very slight chopping by blades. Then... Splamb ... funny noise ... removed cup. Plastic driver on top of motor shaft had split into two pieces. Funeral tomorrow . 11 am!
So, as of 5:40 pm Friday, June 20th, no slurpee today! I did the next best thing, Had 8 oz of Red Protect, in order to get some antioxidants and nutrients. My daughter Ann is searching for her back-up blender that is tucked away somewhere. When I get my 'loaner' we shall proceed with story.
In the meantime, I watched a Great documentary last night ...
"FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD" ... first film by Joe Cross, an Australian, who decided to try and get healthy, on his own, and get Off the Meds he was forced to take because of his unique illness.
Quote from Netflix label:
"Focusing on two men whose bodies have been trashed by steroids, obesity, and illness, this documentary chronicles the rigorous healing path -- including a two-month diet of fruits and vegetables -- that both attempt in a bid to rescue their health"

I am just starting on my personal adventure ... and Plan to ...
Well, if you remember, my 'Magic Bullet' blender died on Thursday. So I missed having one on Friday. Today, Saturday 21st, First Day of Spring, my Friend Pat loaned me her Osterizer blender. Although a very good make, it is quite old, and was sitting on the bar in her basement for several years ... Untouched and Unused. After cleaning it off a tad, when I tried to remove the glass pitcher from the base ... it would not budge!
As I didn't want to risk breaking the glass, what could I use as a penetrating oil? Aha! WD-40 ... that would do the trick! But I didn't have any. Voila! I know ... PAN cooking spray. Squirted it all along the circular base of the pitcher, and watched it foam. I'll let it sit and soak in awhile.
My niece Bernie has just arrived, and we went out to shoot some freon into her car to try and fix the air conditioner. After reading the directions and hooking up the hose, we watched the Pressure Gauge fluctuate as the 'juice' flowed in. The new can she just bought was the same brand, but only 13 oz, while my old can was 18 oz. It worked, and cold air was flowing inside the car, but the gauge read-out only showed 25 psi. I think another can at $26 will be needed to get it up to the desired 45 psi.
So, then the two of us went shopping at Redner's. Spent about $55 on fresh fruits and vegetables. Returned to my trailer, put everything away in fridge.
Used a metal knife-sharpener shaft to lock the base and gingerly twisted the glass pitcher ... Success ... it unscrewed. Both the bottom of the pitcher, as well as the top of the base were encrusted with old black Gook!
After Bernie left, a long and tedious cleaning project ensued. Penknife, screwdrivers, pliers, soap and pot-scraper, paper towels were all employed.
When done, it was obvious that there was a 'chip' missing, right on the bottom edge of the pitcher. This meant that it had been leaking way back when. As I carefully examined and inspected the blade assembly ... POP!
Out it came, right into my hand. Now fully accessible, further cleaning of the 'gook' was possible.
Upon re-assembly it was obvious that something else was wrong. While upside down, everything lined up fine ... but when I inverted the pitcher in order to screw it into the base ... the entire blade assembly just dropped out!
My best guess was that the old neoprene seal originally had been glued on, and it obviously was gone long ago. Fearing contamination, I didn't want to use something potent, like 'Super-Glue' ... Eureka! How about using the 100% Pure Honey that I use for my coffee?
Carefully dabbed the honey all around the circle, waited a tad for it to set up, and then turned the pitcher right-side-up ... it worked! Screwed the pitcher on the base and then tested the blender with just plain water in it.
Seemed ok ... both Hi and Lo speeds worked fine. Started adding my ingredients: two strawberries ... Ok. Then blueberries, grapes, one small tomato ... Ok. I had a nice purple blend going. Added in: partial stalk of celery, some spinach and kale leaves ... Ok. Then some: raw sunflower seeds, three dried prunes, three ice-cubes ... Ok.
Blended on Lo for several minutes, then Hi several more, then back to Lo.
Lookin' Good! Purple Passion Slurpee! Couldn't wait to taste it!
BUT ... as I started to unscrew the pitcher ... WHOOSH ! The liquid was gushing out of the bottom ... the seal had failed! Screwed it back tight again and wondered "What the Hell do I do Now?"
Ever try to pour anything from a heavy glass pitcher, still attached to a heavy metal chrome base? It ain't easy! I originally had about four cups of slurpy/juice ... about one cup or more was all over the counter, running into the sink, and all over the base ... Damn!
After slowly maneuvering the pitcher in my right hand, and a pint plastic cup in my left, and filling it ... then drained the balance into a glass mug. All told, I guess I saved about 18 oz of slurpee. Chugged the smaller cup first ... mmmmm ... pretty good ... Lumpy, but Good!
The next task now was cleaning up the sordid purple mess ... then the pitcher, parts, and base. YUK! Oh, yeah ... found two saturated prunes stuck in the blade assembly base ... Gobbled them down eagerly!
Felt kinda like Little Jack Horner!
Now, as I sit here typing into my lil Apple puter, i gradually polished off the entire big cup. Oh, to be sure, it was Lumpy, and Slimey ... but quite Tasty ... and loaded with Healthy Nutrients!
As I always say: "Thank God for Plan B !"
When I get a chance, I'll buy some of that new, good glue, that is used for removing nuts and bolts, when you don't want a permanent seal. After applying, it will be allowed at least 24 hours to set and bond ...
Before being Stupid, and "Pushing the Envelope" ... So to Speak!

OOPS! ... PLAN C ... JUST ARRIVED!
AND IT IS ... BIGGER! BETTER! And ... MOST GOODEST!
After texting my son Tom about my dilemma on Monday, he told me to look for a surprise soon, an early birthday present ... I said: "Oh Boy - a New Car!" He told me not that big, but it did have loud motor noises!
Wednesday am, a big box was on my porch. It was a NINJA Ultra Kitchen System 1200 !!! YaaaaaaaaY !!!
I had to leave for work in my NEW 2014 HONDA CIVIC LX ... but that's another Story ... so no Slurpy just yet. Three days missed & I was getting anxious ... Withdrawal ???
Yesterday evening, about 9:00 pm, I opened the box, read the directions, removed all parts, and made 1st Ninja Slurpy in a single 16 oz cup. Even M'Lady Pat said it tasted good!
This morning, I decided to make a big batch in the 72 oz pitcher.
Ingredients: 1 large carrot - 3 plum tomatoes - 12 seedless green grapes -
3 raw Brussels sprouts - 3 raw asparagus spears - 3 raw spring onions -
½ regular onion - 2 full celery stalks w/hearts - 1 large dash of garlic/pepper seasoning - 2 tablespoons of raw sunflower seeds - 1 small handful of blueberries - 1 golden Delicious apple (pared) - 1 scoop of Red Protect powder - 1 cup water.
PULSED it gently several times until chopped finely enough to fit more in the pitcher. Added 2 more cups of water and 1 dozen ice-cubes. Crushed, then Blended, poured into the 16 oz travel cup and tasted ... Different ...
Zippy! .... but Good and certainly Nutritious!
The big pitcher went in the Fridge, for future nutrition tonight or manana.
Remember now, Pilgrims, this is a Learning process for me, and my 'Learning Curve" mad me a tad 'Wiggly'! I have already learned that I prefer to drink it more at room temperature, or slightly chilled, rather than frezzing cold!
The concoction was a bit thick, with zillions of little particles, which I could easily feel on my tongue, and all over my teeth. Obviously it needed thinning. No problemo! Simply screw off the sipping cap, add some H2O, a few ice-cubes, then screw on the blade assembly. Single pulse a few times, switch caps again, and Voila! Like drinking a thick Slurpy SALAD!
As I'm typing & sipping, sipping & typing, it becomes patently obvious that the particles started separating. I now have what is known in Chemistry lab circles as a 'colloidal suspension'. Two inches of floating fruits & veggie particles and 2 inches of murky water!
Not appealing to the naked eye, but still delicious and nutritious. No problemo! Simply switch caps again, pulse a tad, then off to the car with my travel cup. Will finish on my trip to the Honda Dealer.
A BIG IMMENSE 'THANK YOU' ....
TO MY BELOVED SON & DAUGHTER-IN-LAW !!!
Smoothies, or slurpees as you call them, are a good bullet in the direction of cancer. I like your idea, Tom, of including raw sunflower seeds. You might try a little piece of dark chocolate in your slurpee. My trainer says dark chocolate in moderation is very healthy. I also use a few table spoons of low fat yogurt in my smoothies. Okay, that did it; time for a smoopee...
