The need to block the outside world from our minds. To truly get away from the stresses of today. To take the time to admire the beauty of complete silence.

Clocks were ticking all around him.  Tearing away at his brain with every annoying tick.  Not knowing what to do he shut the heavy door so he would not hear them along with the damn fire truck sirens blasting as they passed by his window.  The sounds battering away with nowhere to escape.

"Am I going mad?"  He wondered while frantically rushing around trying to shut out the noise.  Slamming all the windows close.  Frantically drawing all the drapes.  Nothing stopped the harsh sounds of the outside.   With determination he pushed his wall unit over to block the damn window.  Now even his own heavy breathing was bothering him.

With urgent certainty he ran trying to find somewhere, anywhere to get away from the ungodly sounds that seemed to pursue him. Looking from room to room in desperation.  His heart was pounding, his breathing quickening.  The sweat pouring down his body as if he were standing under a fine mist.

Finally he found a safe haven, a quiet room where all sounds were extinguished.  The silence was so peaceful and so beautiful, he remained there hiding from all the outside world.  Tuning it out entirely.

Then he sat alone as a if a magical sensation took over him. Allowing time for his rapid heart beat and breathing to gradually regulate itself. Freedom, just what he pursued,  He so desperatly seeked this asylum for so long, and surrenderd himself completely.

Here in this secure room was everything he could ever want. solitude, love, beauty and precious art to admire.  Nothing fasimated him more.  He was excited. No longer tormented by the outside world.

I need to find that room. I am undergoing something similar. Guitar playing inside to late at night, dogs outside barking most of the night, people coming and going all day and night. In between silent spells, I might get a wink of sleep and some peace. I understand the store so well. The earplugs I push deep into my ears brings some comfort. I enjoyed your story, keep up the fine writing.
