In 10 years as a resident of Liberty Mobile Park, in Baltimore County, I have paid out over $49,000 in Ground Rent ... and I get Nothing, No tax deduction, No ownership of property, No Rights as a Renter.
On Wednesday evening, I received a letter from the Owner of the park, Nancy Leiter, Not Renewing my standard Lease of 10 years, and putting me on Month-to-Month lease ...
AND ... quoting other lease clauses about Trespassing!
She has Collected over $49,000 over 10 years ...
and now I'm being threatened as a TRESPASSER?
Yet, because of some Clause in the lease, and a list of two minor infractions, or violations, I am being Discriminated Against!
Holes in the skirting caused by edging. She wants the skirts replaced,
but I cannot afford $1,500 or More + Labor!
So-called "dry-rotted" steps ... which is Untrue ... they are made of Pressure-Treated lumber! She wants them Painted!
NOTE: There are at least 4 other Trailers here in the park with Holes in their skirts also! She said They got letters also!
I have been a good resident all these years, mind my own business, and have never ever had any problem whatsoever with any neighbors. In fact, the first year here I gave CPR to a next door neighbor Tony, who died of a Heart Attack!
FACTS:
I am a 75 Year-Old Senior Citizen ... Never One Dime of Discount!
I am Retired, living on meager Social Security Benefits.
I am forced to work Part-Time just to make ends meet!
I am a Veteran, with an Honorable Discharge from The U.S. Army!
I had Surgery TWICE last year for BLADDER CANCER!
The co-pays & deductions & medical prescriptions & supplies
wiped out my Savings!
Do I deserve any Consideration whatsoever as a Renter?
Should I contact FOX NEWS or Channel 11 to tell my Story?
Must I go out and get a Lawyer?
P.S. There are about 50 Homes (trailers) here, so I estimate She has
Grossed close to $2,500,000 over the past 10 years!
I do feel your pain. I doubt many of us will get out of this world rich whether a home owner or renter. I'll second the motion of lodging a formal complaint, and resorting to calling one of the local TV station's hotlines as your next recourse if you have to.
A word of caution. The laws are generally in favor of landlords. That's why I'm a landowner. Unfortunately, landowners have to pay taxes… And complain a lot about that. But, renters pay taxes, in-proportionately, through their rent.
But you are right to file a complaint, in writing, registered, signature required, to your landlord stating the very things you just said about how long you've faithfully paid rent now much. If she does not reconsider, call those TV stations.
Looks like Jane had a great idea, I mean, if others can make money off of the benevolence of the Maryland community at large,why not you, as well call the local TV station affiliate or probably better yet, write them a letter...you certainly know how to write a letter that will catch the eye of the station manage, I would think...lawyer is last resort, if nothing else works...Good luck...-e-
