It was December of 1990 when the Somalian government was close to being overthrown by three rebel groups in which one was led by warlord Mohamed Farrah . The violent civil war in Mogadishu Somalia suddenly erupted into massive urban combat.. The Somalia government was in the final stages of complete collapse and the President of Somalia went into hiding.

The U.S. Embassy suddenly became the target as renegade soldiers began circling the U.S. Embassy like jackals sizing up their prey in which they eventually begin placing ladders on the compound walls preparing to assault.

Trent LaLand was a member of a 60 man ground rescue force that was combined of 51 Marines and 9 Navy Seals from Seal Team 8 that launched from the U.S.S. Guam in two Marine CH-53 Super Stallion helicopters on January 5, 1991 at 02:46 am at a distance of 466 miles from Mogadishu Somalia in an attempt to reach the trapped American diplomats, diplomatic heads from other countries along with their famlies before it was to late. 

The two Marine CH-53 Super Stallion helicopters carrying the ground rescue force would have to fly over four hours at night over the ocean and receive to air refuelings by two KC-130 Tanker planes to reach the besieged U.S. Embassy.
