At That Moment

What in the hell were you thinking at that moment?
I asked
Was there a wild hair that just crawled up your ass
Or was it that you just couldn’t think that fast
Why do you keep making bad choices
Don’t you tell me it came from “other voices”
Can’t you still see that it’s not good for you
To keep on drinking like you do
At that moment, what were you thinking
That you just keep on drinking
He replied
Mama, I try and I try, but I’m not that strong
I know what I do is very wrong
But, I’m an addict, and each minute is so hard
Even though every day I pray to the Lord
If you can just forgive me this infraction one more time
I’ll be happy, and try again to stay in line
I give you no promise set in stone
Cause it’s extremely hard to always feel so all alone
We prayed
We all cried way back then when he was a young man
The family still cries today, while we support him as much as we can
Lord, why does this addiction get into some so deep
While others have no problem that make them weep
Our answer
Look deep into a person’s soul
And you will find his final goal
What he sows, so shall he reap
It comes down to his own decision to meet what he can keep
We said thanks
