Holidays, no matter the duration, are a breather and a much awaited moment. Being a "teacher", tutor and "mentor" for the past 17 years plus, I have witnessed much of the happy moments I shared with my students.
The climax of all finally came yesterday, to be precise, after they sat for their final paper. Every sacrifice seemed worth it as they wrapped up their pre-university programme. The broadest smiles on their faces said it all.
When they arrived in droves, at my desks, to convey their gratitude and waved their final goodbyes, there was this unusual, solemn sight. Everyone stood still, but not without their friendliest smiles.
Their sudden silence left me some room to think of what to say - my "last words". What should I say to encourage them? That was the greatest challenge: Giving them the motivation and reminder - their food for thought.
