Time has once again found me at the Starbucks in Target. Last time it found me here I had just “Paid It Forward” to the woman behind me in line. The cashier then Paid It Forward to me with a five dollar gift card. I gave it to the only other person in line who looked as pregnant as one can look.
Feeling quite happy with me self, I settled down to bit of writing. That writing never came, for the muses had scattered upon my learning of Mr. Van Patten's death. I was fighting tears for his family, while quickly sending them me condolences.
Even though the joy of the earlier seconds of giving never returned, I have since discovered that each time I Pay it Forward, me heart remembers to me the legacy of a great man I wish I had known. I think that I shall now instead call Paying it Forward “Doing a DVP.”
