Strong people aren't born strong.

Blessed are Those who Overcome

Strong people aren''t born strong. They''ve clawed themselves out of the darkest pits of doom, often enduring months of ''caving'' and ''retreating'' from the world. Anxiety and depression are normal, everyday occurrences. Their minds are not what they once were.

They''ve overcome horrific tragedies and challenges that most are yet to experience. At times, they didn''t know how they would manage to keep going, but somehow they did.

They''ve given themselves time and patience to work through their pain and they know their wounds intimately. They sense their triggers and have started to understand why they occur.

Next, they gradually start to heal. There''s no timescale for healing grief and trauma. Every individual is different. They take one day at a time. Slow and steady is the key, and often this is easier said than done. Instant results are never going to happen. It''s a process that cannot be rushed. They wait, taking as long as they need.

They know when they are ready to face the world again. On the outside everything looks the same as before but that''s far from the truth. Nothing is as it was before. So much has changed. It''s in the depths of the soul, deep inside, where irreversible change has taken place.

They can never go back to that place before it happened and they don''t even try. The transformation process has begun.

There''s a sense of comfort which comes each time a wise soul reaches out and shares their stories with another. Wisdom shared brings further nurturing to others who were in their place. It''s a rippling effect of lifting another.

Such connections bring a deeper sense of understanding. Compassion and empathy further heals the broken heart and a mutual bond is formed which may last a lifetime.

Peace, prayers, and hope, for those who can''t overcome just yet, but keep trying.

Something inside of me HAD to paint this, Maybe because I''d like to SEE MORE PEACE in this disturbed world.

Thank you. Painting this piece made me cry.
The face I had drawn on this canvas was PRINCE. I study facial features before I begin painting and the drawing was the way I see PRINCE. When I began applying the paint, it wasn’t PRINCE at all. I kept trying to get back what I had in the drawing but I couldn’t. But the eyes... I loved the eyes. So... this is what I ended up with thinking about how the world is today. I’m not going to attempt to paint a portrait of PRINCE again. I wonder what music he would’ve written and sung about today. I’m keeping this canvas. He was a quiet, peaceful, compassionate person with a cute little face. So now, He Cries😪 OR maybe it was the song Purple Rain that made me cry?
But to me, this is no longer PRINCE. It's whoever you see crying.
The piece is open to the viewers interpretation. I painted the tears last.

Certainly an encouraging statement for those who have faced trauma. But I often think back to that cold December day when my life took a dramatic turn and wonder what I would have become had I not been paralyzed and discriminated against for it for the rest of my life.
