Cats In The Cradle

On November 26, 1980 I stopped Steve Chapin for speeding in a small sw village in Michigan, his backseat passenger was his brother "Thee Harry Chapin" and the front seat passenger was Harry's manager.

During this traffic stop Steve and Harry got out of the vehicle and sang an impromtu version of Cat's In The Cradle". Neither knew that this Police Officer (me) was a big fan and raised by a single mom.

This incident was noted on Harry's highlights of 1980, the Police Officer notes it as one of his lifetime highlights.

Well written except if it were a few paragraphs it would be easier to read. Both you and Harry Chapin were gentlemen in that traffic stop. Most don't have that much friendly conversation going on. I admired that you didn't take a bribe, but allowed your younger observer to take advantage of Harry's generosity--also part of his promotion. Cats in the Cradle is one of my all-time favorites. So, after reading your story title, I quickly went to the Internet to listen once again to those fabulous lyrics sung with a great melody. I sing a cappella because I can and find it effortless. I sometimes just come up with tunes in my mind and add words, just ad-libbing. Immediately forget everything and don't write it down because it's hard for me to do that physically. If I write a song, it's a poem first. Ron
