I heard a noise and couldn't find out where it came from until I recieved help from my brothers.

When the car stopped and we got out and I looked up to this very large house. It looked just like a Victorian Mansion. A very large two story home. That sat on top of a large hill with the yard as big as a meadow.

At my age any big house would look like a mansion. It was much better than the old homes that we had rented before. The others always leaked when it rained and when the snow would fly. It always snowed in my bedroom in the other house. This had been our way of life until we moved here.I was just about 7 years old when we moved into this house. For the first time in my life everyone in our house had his own bedroom. There were rooms in this house as big as some of the stores that we visited in our small town.

With a smile on my face I was going to get to pick which bedroom upstairs that was to be mine. You see I was the only girl in our family. The other children were boys and my other sister wasn’t around anymore for she had gone off to serve in the Air Force.

Well back to my story. Mom said that I could pick any bedroom that I wanted. We all ran up the stairs to look at the rooms. I walked around for a while then I picked this big room that had a door and a lock on it. Yes, my first room with a door that could be locked. I felt like I was ten feet tall and as big as all the other children in the house. Mom said I could have it and we started moving our stuff into the house. I just loved this house it was much nicer than the other homes we had lived in. Every night I would go to my room sit on my bed and read a book. It was quite time for me. When we first moved in I would lock my bedroom door every night before jumping in my big bed. After a while the lock didn’t mean too much to me so I stopped locking the door.

One night when it was quiet time I was sitting on my bed reading a wonderful storybook with lots of pictures and not to many words. The other children were in their beds too. On this night I hadn’t locked my door in fact I had left it open and I was looking at my book and talking to my brothers.

Then all of a sudden I heard this noise, a very scary noise that seemed to come from my closet. I hadn’t ever heard a noise like this one. So I whispered to my brother, “Garry”. I didn’t get an answer. So I whispered a little bit louder, “Garry”, I said. Then again I heard the scary  noise, scrape. It sounded like someone was scraping on the window of my room! I listened again.  There it was again now it sounded like it was in my closet. All kinds of thoughts raced through my head. Was there a monster in my closet? Did my other brother hide in there to scary me? All the while I kept hearing this very scary noise.

My brother finally heard me and he said,” What do you want?” I was so scared by then that I couldn’t move. Not one part of my body would move. No matter how much I willed my hands and feet to move they wouldn’t.  Scared, No, I wasn’t scared by then I was petrified. I had jumped under the covers and pulled them over my head but I still heard this  scary scraping noise. It was coming from the closet or was it the window.. It seemed so loud now. Every time I heard it I would shake even more.

I was so scared by this time that I couldn’t even get my voice to say a word. My voice box seemed to be swelled shut. I tried again and not a sound did I make.  I had never been this scared in my entire life. Finally my brothers came to my door, looked in and said, ”What did you want?” “What’s the matter with you?”

I squeaked, “ There’s some kind of monster in my closet!” They both just laughed at me. Together they both said,” There isn’t any such thing as a monster.” Then they heard the noise. Both of them got really quite and tried to find where the noise was coming from. They tiptoed through my room looking for what had made the noise. Then we couldn’t hear any noise. All of us and the noise had just stopped.  They said,” It must be the tree scrapping the on window. Now leave us alone and go to sleep.”

Well that did sound like a good idea so everyone went back to their beds to settle down for the night. Then I heard the scary  noise again. Should I tell them or would they think I was just being a sacred-dee cat girl. No, I thought it’s nothing and told myself to go to sleep. I kept hearing the noise. The fear started to creep in on me again. Here I was in this great big bed in this great big old room all by myself. Well I didn’t care if they thought I was a scared-dee cat girl. I jumped out of bed and ran to my brother’s room screaming, “There’s something in my closet.”

The boys started an investigation to see where the noise was coming from again. The stood by the window and no noise. They looked under my bed and no noise. They finally found it. It was coming from my closet just like I had told them. They both went to the closet and opened the door so swiftly that I jumped and screamed. “Yeeeeeek!!”

There at the bottom of my closet was a cat. Yes, a kitten that had ventured into my closet and was caught in there when I had shut the door. It was just as frightened of me as I had been  the noise it had been making. My brothers just picked up the kitten and laughed at me because I had been so scared of nothing. Just a kitten. I let out a long breath of air from my lungs. Wow! All of that nonsense over a little bitty cat that was in my closet. Boy did my brothers tease me after all of that. I didn’t live that down for weeks.

The one thing I learned is that you need to make sure there aren’t any animals in your closet when you shut the door. And if you hear a noise don’t tell your brothers just investigate it yourself. You’ll be happy that you took care of your own problem. Don’t tell your brothers or you might be as sorry as I had been.
