I got into this by accident when the Stegner fellow who was teaching a creative writing course told us students to show up to the next class with the first 5 pages of our next novel.
Ever the good student, I complied. I spent the next several years writing, reading every book on craft I could find, attending conferences and meeting other writers. When I self-published THWARTED QUEEN, I took courses in self-publishing from Writers Digest University. The best bit of marketing I did was to put my novel in for every prize I could think of. That, and getting reviews on Amazon.
Now I have sold over 500 copies of my novel and made my first $1000. Yes, the numbers are small. But I had to do all of this myself without any help. I believe that if I continue to persevere, my novel will get the attention it deserves.
