Emmanuel Buchar is a half vampire, half human with a thirst for blood. He is a warrior for his people and a protector to the Ashnahs. Emmanuel learns from his elders that an Ashnah has recently been born and it is his duty to go and watch over her. There is a fear among his people that the Sanguinarians will want to kill the young Ashnah do to her power. Emmanuel travels from his home in Romania to Redlands, California where he is to protect her. Over the years Emmanuel watches the infant transform into a beautiful woman who he is in love with. Marie Allen thinks that her life is ordinary until she meets up with Anthony Brasov who tries to kill her. Luckily Emmanuel is there to save her, and then tells her of her powers. Now it is up to Emmanuel and Marie to go back to Romania and stop Anthony and his band of Sanguinarians from killing off the Ashnahs and trying to rule the world. Through it all Emmanuel has to choose between his love for Marie and Making her Immortal.
Excerpt
Emmanuel Buchar was like any other normal vampire of his race. He was from Pitesti, Romania. He was a Striogoi—half vampire, half human—with a thirst for blood. He was strong, dark, and tall with long brown hair and dark hazel eyes. He was handsome and had a muscular build and always felt the need to dress properly to impress. He was a leader and a protector to his people and eventually a protector to one of the Ashnahs’. He knew of the Ashnahs through the stories of his people and had never met one, but knew he would someday. The Ashnahs are women with psychic abilities who would rule the world one day. Through their abilities, they could create order in the universe and make world peace for everyone. The Ashnahs could be identified by their heart-shaped birthmark on their foot, just below their ankle. Emmanuel knew eventually he would be given his turn to protect and to love an Ashnah. He just didn’t know where or how soon it would be.
March 1979
Emmanuel was wandering through the mountains of his home in Romania when a messenger came to him and told him that the High Council of the Elders wanted to meet with him. He was to return to them immediately, it was very urgent. Emmanuel flew quickly to the council chambers. When he arrived, he asked what the urgency was. He thought that another war had broken out between his people and the Sanguinarians. The Sanguinarians are evil bloodsucking vampires that his people had been fighting with since time began. As far as the Sanguinarians were concerned, they were going to kill off the Ashnahs so they could be the rulers of the world. The council informed him that an Ashnah had been born, and it was duty to protect her. He was to go to the town where she was and to watch over her. He was to make sure that Sanguinarians did not get to her before she came into her full powers.
If the Sanguinarians got to her before she realized her full powers, they would try to bend her powers for evil; they could turn her against the other Ashnahs. If this was accomplished, the Sanguinarians could actually destroy mankind and create a place for their race. He was warned not to interfere with her or her family while she was growing up. He was only to interact with her after her thirtieth birthday when she had come into her full powers. Emmanuel agreed to the assignment and was excited to go and meet his Ashnah. Emmanuel told his mother and his friends of his mission and bid them farewell. He then set off on his mission to protect her.
A few days later, Emmanuel arrived in a small town by the name of Redlands located in California. It had been a long time since Emmanuel had been there. The area had changed since he had been there last. The open areas with orange trees were gone, and in there place, stood houses and large buildings. Emmanuel figured on staying in a motel for a few days and then going to reopen the mansion that his family owned.
He went to the local hospital as instructed by the council and made his way to the maternity ward. He turned himself into a fine mist and went in. He looked at all the babies and finally found her by noticing her birthmark. He watched as this beautiful baby was picked up by a nurse and put in an incubator for isolation. He figured that she was very ill to be moved away from the other babies like that. This made him very concerned. He was already in love with her. He wanted to stay with her and watch her. However, he knew it was getting late, and the sun would be rising soon. He would have to go back to the motel and sleep. He would come back every day, to check on her progress. If she wasn’t better, he figured to consult the high council to save her. He would request a healer be sent. He figured that they would agree to such a task, for she was precious and a gift to his people.
Emmanuel watched over her a little longer, and then he decided. He must go back to his resting place in order to beat the sun. Just as he was leaving, two women walked into the area and walked over to the incubator. He assumed that the younger of the two women was the mother and the other one was the grandmother. He noticed how upset they were and decided to stay and listen to see just how bad the situation was. He listened as the two women cried over the baby.
“Oh, mom,” the younger one said, “how could this happen to my precious Marie. I think that she is going to die.”
“Now, Cee Cee,” her mother said comfortingly, “I think I know my granddaughter, and she seems like a fighter just like you are. I am sure she is going to be fine. The doctors say it is a problem with her kidneys. If she stays in this incubator for a few days, she will live.”
Here was Emmanuel a half vampire that had only been around for a couple of hundred years and for the first time did not know how to react to this situation. Here he was floating in the middle of the room with the mother and grandmother of the Ashnah, and for the first time in his life, he felt upset and worried. For the first time in his life, he wanted to cry and to pray to the gods above to let this child live. He knew that Marie, his Ashnah, was not just his to protect but she was going to be his forever. She was his light and love. He was going to love her and be with her for all eternity. Emmanuel smelled the sun starting to rise. He floated away in a hurry. After he left the maternity ward and took a corporal form again, he ran back to the motel. The sun was starting to come over the ridge, and he ran to his room and slammed the door.
Emmanuel was so tired that he went to sleep and slept late into the evening. After sleeping and regaining his strength, Emmanuel went to the hospital and watched over Marie. He would arrive in the early evening, and every morning, he would leave the hospital to go to sleep, only to think about how much she meant to him and his people. He also thought of the day when she could finally meet him and share his love for her. Seven days later, Marie finally left the hospital to go home and start her new life with her family.
Over the next few years, Emmanuel watched over her as she grew. He would enter her house as she slept and would sit and listen to Cecile and Marie’s grandparents tell each other about all the things that Marie had gotten into during the day. He heard tales of her first steps and her first words, among all the other firsts that she had. He hoped that eventually, he would get to witness one of her firsts. Before he knew it, over five years had passed, and it was time for Marie to go to school.
He decided that now was the time that he would have to be there as much as he could for her because she would be out of the protection of her home and her family. He knew that without his and these other protections, the Sanguinarians could easily grab her.
He soon realized that school was during the day, and he could not be with her. So he hired a servant to go out during the day and protect her when he could not be around. He would still watch over her in the evenings.
Time went on and Emmanuel was involved in as much of Marie’s life that he could be without interfering. Emmanuel went to all the school plays she was in. He watched over her as she went on dates, and he wept with her when her boyfriend broke up with her. He could not see her in any kind of pain without being in pain himself.
As Marie got older, he saw her face the loss of her closest family members, and even though he wanted to comfort her, he knew that those losses would make her a much stronger person. He loved her even more for that. Over the years, Emmanuel noticed how Marie blossomed from a young child into a beautiful young woman.
Present Day
Before Emmanuel knew it, twenty-nine years had gone by, and he was amazed at how beautiful Marie was. He was also so proud of her accomplishments. She had gone to college and gotten her teaching credentials and was a substitute teacher. To his people, a teacher was well respected, and they were looked upon as advisors, even to the council. They were considered to know all and see all. For this reason, it made him even prouder of Marie.
Marie Allen always felt that she was very plain looking—she stood about five feet ten inches, and she had long reddish brown hair and brown eyes. She usually wore jeans and tee shirts on her days off and nicer clothes when she had to work. She was always told what a pretty girl she was but never believed people when they told her this.
To prepare for Marie’s upcoming birthday and her new life with him, Emmanuel had his servants clean and prepare Buchar Manor for her arrival. It was two days before Marie’s thirtieth birthday and to hear her say that ‘A birthday was just another day’was expected.To her family, however, her birthday was the biggest day of her life. For as long as she could remember, all of her birthdays had been like that. Marie felt nothing ever exciting happened in her town or in her life. However, she always felt that one day it would happen, and she hoped it would be soon.
It was a Friday evening about 8:00P.M., and Marie was going to the farmer’s market to do some shopping. She had her list that included a few fresh fruits and veggies and some bread. She was also looking for cute clothes and jewelry if she could find any. Marie left her house and started walking to the location of the farmer’s market that was a few blocks away from her home. As she was walking, she felt a very strange feeling as if she was being watched or followed. She looked around but saw no one. Still feeling uncomfortable, she picked up the pace and kept looking behind her.
She was just about to reach the farmer’s market when a hand reached out and grabbed her. Marie screamed and turned around to see a pale-faced man with glowing red eyes and sharp teeth. He was wearing dark clothes and a long black leather coat over them. He smiled at her and said devilishly, “Why are you in such a hurry my dear?”
Marie looked at this pale monster and started to answer, but her only answer came out as a scream. As Marie was screaming, out of nowhere came two more hands that grabbed Marie away from the hideous thing.
