Her eyes were a warm golden brown, more round than almond shaped, and were set above a well formed, slightly large nose, in the middle of a dark brown, oval face. Her brown sun-bleached hair was ritualistically combed back off of her face and tied at the nape of her neck. Built like her father, whom she never knew, Kisa was heavy and solid, but carried her weight well because of her height. At twelve years old, she was five feet eleven inches tall. Towering above the other girls her age, she was completely unaware of how well her large bones were shaped.
Her self-consciousness regarding her height had grown. It had grown to such an extent that Kisa had taken on a most unflattering habit; when walking she bent herself forward, slouched her shoulders and kept her hands together in front of her, as low as they could possibly go. She reminded one of a turtle peering every now and again out of its shell.
