Surrendering....to the Light of God! We, as human beings are very self-reliant…we see our ‘independence’ as a strength, indeed. Thus, when one begins to seek a closer relationship with Almighty God, one of the most difficult things to overcome is our ‘self-sufficiency’.
To become ‘needy’ of someone else is hard especially when, in the beginning, we can only see ‘Him’ who is our deepest need…By Faith. It may take a while for us to be able ‘see’ or ‘feel’ His Presence all around us.
We fight against the in-born, purposely placed ‘vulnerability’ of needing God, because it’s our nature to do so. It is our nature to shun seeing ourselves as 'fragile' in any area and we determine to ‘handle it all' ourselves, while ‘taking credit’ for our existence. However, let’s consider; regardless of such ‘things’ as health, wealth, position, intellect, notability, associates or possessions…we would not be able to draw one breath if not for the Will of God. ‘He’ is the total ‘Provider’ of life to all living creatures on the earth. Yet, the battle to remain ‘in-charge’ of our lives…goes on and on, until we can accept that our very existence depends on Him and not us.
But, what is really remarkable, and I speak from experience; the more we lean on God, giving Him the ‘weight’ of all we must face…the more ‘liberated’ and at peace we feel. Our 'self-worth' is not reduced at all but increased because we begin to understand and appreciate how much He Loves us. And stress takes a back seat, being greatly reduced(matt 11:28-30). When I was younger, I could not understand why some who seemed to ‘have it all’ gave up on living. Then, over time, I came to realize there is a need in all of us that cannot be bought. God is our source and we need Him to survive in this world. Clearly we are told this in His Word; '... you will have tribulations but be of good cheer… ‘I AM’ has overcome the world...' (jhn 16:33,paraphrasing).
I pray this does not ‘ruffle’ anyone’s feathers. All I’m saying is; what would be the good of all the afore-mentioned ‘things’ if God did not provide… breath? Therefore, fight against Him no more... our lives belong to God and we 'need' him…yes?
I believe that the surrendering of heart, mind and soul to God by Paul (Saul) is one of the most beautiful acts of conversion (Acts 9:1-31) found in The Word of God.
