AUTHOR JUDITH ANN McDOWELL is a brilliant woman who has written a novel that held me hostage from mid-way through Chapter One to the very end! I feel positive she has a REAL, LIVING WEREWOLF hidden in her closet! Her novel "ROUGAROU" is set in modern day St. Anthony's Parish,Louisiana. A young girl goes missing from her family's new home. The Stewart family had recently moved to the Parish and leased a magnificent mansion. As the family settled in a stray dog appears; wet, hungry and cold. The Stewart's three daughters want to feed the dog, their father Roger disallows it. Margaret, Rebecca and six year old Lisa are determined to put food out, just this once.
Margaret disappears into thin air. The St. Anthony Parish Sheriff's Office responds in force to Roger Stewart's frantic call. Detective Lieutenant Donovan Hays arrives and takes charge of the "missing child" case. Donovan knows the history of this mansion all too well.
From his arrival at the mansion, Detective Lieutenant Donovan Hays is determined to find Margaret and bring her back safely to her family. In his mind, he knows the odds are against him.
"ROUGAROU" is a beautifully written masterpiece of a novel. This novel can very well be made into a BLOCKBUSTER film, and QUENTIN TARRENTINO should take notice.
Now I see there is a sequel "ROUGAROU II" and I must read it soon. I want to know IF Det. Lt. Hays will finally close his most confounding case.
JUDITH ANN McDOWELL is an extraordinary Author with a vivid imagination. Her characters are so real and the descriptions of the mansion as a 'haunted house' will scare the heck out of the most steeled reader. My sister Judith Ann, always tried to tell me Vampires and Werewolves were real . . . I never believed her . . . now having read "ROUGAROU" by JUDITH ANN McDOWELL, I believe!
"ROUGAROU" is very deserving of the FIVE STARS I can bestow upon it.
