After walking for what were exactly a few minutes down lightly lit Lincoln Street in downtown Lanes, Virginia, Ashleigh hears heavy footsteps coming from behind her. She quickly turns around and sees a shadowy male figure a block away turn a corner. Continuing to look and search, she sees nothing else. As she turns back around and walks a little faster than she was before, the sound of heavy footsteps are yet again heard coming behind her. Ashleigh turns around and sees the same shadowy male figure turn at a different corner. Terror has now completely consumed her entire body and now had total control. Taking off her shoes, Ashleigh runs back barefoot to the direction of the club. She knows the man is in the same direction, but if she could get to Jonathon, she knew she would be safe.
She’s a few yards away from the club when the man comes out of the corner he previously turned on and continues walking toward her. Ashleigh is frightened and scurries into the club. She fights her way through the crowd and is in the middle of the floor. Surrounded by hot, tall, moving bodies, Ashleigh was standing five feet and six inches tall. She could barely see the entrance to the club nor could she find Jonathon. She stands on the tip of her toes and sees a man come through the door. The pain definitely made her feel as if she broke something. As she looked down, she noticed someone had stepped on her foot. Before she knew it, she was falling backwards and bumping into a group of professional jazz dancers. The clear unchanging expressions on their face told her they were upset. One of the men, standing about four inches taller than her yells and tells her to leave the dance floor if she isn’t going to dance. His friends nod their head in agreement. It wasn’t a big commotion, but it was noticeable. She limps to the wall of the club and leaves through a back door that leads to an alley. Pulling out her phone, she tries to call Jonathon. He doesn’t answer and she becomes increasingly nervous and upset.
The back door to the club barges open and she runs and hides behind a dumpster. The man looks around, searching. He balls his fist and kicks the wall of the alley with a grunt. Ashleigh peaks around the dumpster and recognizes the man. Shock and confusion were the least of her worries, but the familiarity most definitely took the feelings she had regardless. She moves back behind the dumpster and steps on a rat. It squeals and she covers her mouth in anticipation as she silently utters God’s name in vain. The man, leaving the alley, looks back and begins walking toward the rusting green dumpster. Looking behind the dumpster, Ashleigh knows he found what he was looking for.
She screams and cries as the man grabs Ashleigh and throws her on the abrasive asphalt beside him which in turn scrapes the very skin off her elbows, knees, and face. The man stands over her and numerously kicks her in her side. Inside the club, people are dancing to the loud jazz music which covers her screams. She tries to crawl away with fractured ribs but is dragged by her leg to the end of the alley. Her nail beds crack, break and bleed as she digs them into the ground. The stranger picks her up by her neck and roughly throws her against the wall slightly fracturing her skull. Suddenly all the pain seemed to disappear. Ashleigh’s eyes lower and everything falls silent. He whispers in her ear the mistakes she has made, turns her around against his body and twists her neck. Her lifeless body falls to the ground. The man seals his attack with a kiss on her lips. He fixes her dress and folds her arms across her chest. Exiting the alley, the man heartlessly leaves Ashleigh’s dead body behind.
