I can’t remember the last time I was this angry, if ever. My ears ring with the sound of my rushing blood. I feel my pulse in my fists as my fingers dig into my palms. I stare at the rain and forget to blink. The current in my ears grows louder.
I think I am daring him right now. I think I am daring God.
My body slightly rocks to my heartbeat. The lightning catches a snapshot, and the rain freezes in place. I have no escape. The ninth step creaks. I close my eyes.
There is a very loud CLICK in my head. So loud I jump. I spin toward the door, wondering how I missed the moan of the landing and his approach toward my room. I have to blink. Then I do it again.
I am not in my room.
I am in the storm.
