A compilation of people who found success at an early age.
Do you ever wonder what has happened to today's generation of kids? Where is their entrepreneurial drive? Where is their desire to help their fellow human?
This book highlights several people who did great things as children: a seven-year-old surgeon; a five-year-old musical prodigy; a child dying of cancer who started a world-wide charity.
If you don't think kids are capable of doing great things you need to read this book. You will wonder what you did with YOUR life!
Excerpt
When I was a kid my days were spent outside with friends. If we weren’t playing kickball or baseball in the street or playing football in an empty lot getting covered in briars with each tackle then we were riding our bikes exploring or running through the swamps or the woods. When I wasn’t running through the mud or digging through the trash pile at the local moving company warehouse (where we found all kinds of cool stuff to bring home!) I was mowing lawns, selling lemonade, or selling newspapers.
In short: kids of my generation were explorers, athletes, and entrepreneurs. If we weren’t outdoors doing something with our time we weren’t happy. The only exception to that for me was if there was baseball or football on the television.
So what’s my point? My point is that the children of today, namely your little cupcakes, are lazy and spoiled and have been relentlessly coddled and overindulged. They can’t be allowed to experience defeat, hurt, or rejection lest their totally overrated self-esteem be irreparably harmed.
Don’t let them outside; they may sustain an injury. Stubbed toes, cuts and abrasions cannot be tolerated. And if your precious little tub of goo did stub his or her toe then you’d probably just sue someone anyway.
Who’d want to go to a playground today, anyway? Have you seen the totally useless, plastic, no fun garbage they put on playgrounds nowadays? Swings are gone. Tall slides have been replaced with short, plastic slides. See-saws (or teeter-totters, if you prefer) are nonexistent as are merry-go-rounds. Even swing sets are disappearing. Who’d want to play on those pathetic excuses for play equipment? Where are the monkey bars? (is that P.C.?) Where are the see-saws? Where are the ten-foot tall metal slides that we used to burn our rumps on in the summer time?
No, my friends, kids today are nothing like the kids of generations past. They’re soft, both physically and mentally. They’re coddled at every turn. They’re constantly told how great they are even if they are losers (don’t keep score at the game…then they’re ALL winners!). Today’s kids are too caught up playing their favorite video games, watching their favorite reality show, and trying to keep up with all of their friends in classmates in the technology and fashion departments to be concerned with inventing something, starting a business, or trying to change the world.
Be prepared to get depressed as you press on, dear readers. As you read about these child prodigies take a look at your own kids, sitting there in front of the Nintendo Wii, scarfing down a bag of Doritos and a two-liter of root beer. The highlight of their formative years will be getting the high score on Grand Theft Auto or finally beating the latest Mario game.
But don’t get too depressed. It’s not like your kid is going to be living in your basement when they’re thirty years old…right? RIGHT???
