Lucinda lives in a large house near the crossroads and the backwaters of the Chowan River in coastal North Carolina.
Most of her life she is cared for by "Aunty" who cares for both Lucy and her Dad. During her senior year in high school both her Dad and Aunty pass away, so Lucy begins college on her own.
