Betsy's Story is about a young woman's struggle to overcome her addictions to drugs and alcohol, while dealing with a chronic illness called Alport's Syndrome.
This book was written using the subject's own journals and will take the reader on an incredible journey of growth and spirituality. The book begins with the beginning of Betsy's recovery journey and shows how difficult it can be to partake in that recovery process when it seems that all the odds are stacked against you.

I was born into sickness and poverty of the soul. I guess I didn’t believe I deserved much better. I guess I thought I’d be able to take it, never knowing what it would be like at all. I think it’s the same way for us all. The only difference is that some of us knew they deserved better than I thought I did. I have learned though. Oh yes! I have learned through all of this that I deserved better. But, it’s too late now. I have a renal disease from birth for the rest of my life. There’s no changing that part of the game. The good thing is that this disease is treatable over long, very long, periods of time. I can buy time to keep existing until, maybe someday, I can begin to really live and become an expert at playing the game called Life.
The experience of a young adult trying to figure out what they want to do for employment or education can be overwhelming. My book will give them insight to what it means to be a carpenter. And the progress unions have made in discrimination.

This book has been eight years in the making. It is mostly a jumble of thoughts written down in old spiral notebooks and hidden in the bottom drawer underneath various manuals for software packages and hardware long since turned obsolete.
