"That won't happen to me." I am sure that we have all heard this statement before. The thing is that when it does happen to you, that statement turns to, "Why is this happening to me?" As I mentioned in a previous chapter, my first thought was that I have to go with him. I felt like half of my soul was ripped from my body, and my heart was crushed. I became very selfish. Why does my brother have to pass away? I wasn't even finished high school yet. He won't even see me graduate, he won't see me in college, he won't get to see me marry, or even have children. Everything turned to being about me. I did most things that he did first, and I went to him for advice for everything. Why are my parents going to their son's funeral? Parents aren't supposed to be doing that. Children are supposed to bury their parents. The real pain of Rocky passing away didn't begin until after the first year; the first Christmas without him, his birthday, and other holidays. That is when I truly knew that what happened is a reality. He won't be there when the next football season starts. Who is going to throw the football back when I'm in the yard practicing. He's not there to pick me up from school, and he's not there to workout with. There were changes clearly taking place, and I couldn't do anything to stop them.
