Jesus Wears Dockers, The Gospel Conspiracy story is an extraordinary feat of creative expression that ferrets out the correct interpretation of the sayings of Jesus and solves the mystery of Christ's gospel of salvation. Ironic, humorous, and delightfully revealing.
“What do you say, O? Are you up to the challenge of helping me to dispel the Gospel conspiracy?” Jesus asked, with just the right edge to provoke me.
“Gospel conspiracy?” I asked, puzzled. “What Gospel conspiracy?”
Jesus looked me deep in the eyes. It was the first time I saw it, but there was the most subtle hint of a playfully mischievous smile in his eyes and sweet curve on his lips that I would come to see often in the course of our talks, not unlike the mystic Mona Lisa’s smile that teased my sense of reality. “You’ll come to see what I mean in good time,” he replied.
“What the hell!” I burst out, surprising myself. “Why not?”
“Good!” said Jesus, and gave me a friendly slap on the shoulder.
“You know, J,” I said, feeling his love filling me up again so quickly that I could not contain it, “that’s the problem with the spiritual life today not enough whimsy!”
Excerpt
I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder. I turned to look. It was Jesus. “Did you enjoy the service?” he asked, with a bright twinkle in his eyes.
“As a matter of fact, it was the most satisfying service I’ve attended yet,” I replied, smiling with surprise. “I’m glad you appeared, because I had serious doubts about attending any more worship services.”
Jesus did not say anything, but his eyes beckoned me.
“Tell me, Jesus,” I said, as though talking to an old friend, “is it me, or is what I’m witnessing a clear picture of the conceit that I see in some of these High Initiates?”
“Both,” replied Jesus. “You have to appreciate where they’re coming from, even if they have no idea of the effect they have on people. Not all of them, of course. Just those High Initiates that have not yet resolved the deeper issues of their own vanity.”
“It is a curse, isn’t it?”
“What, vanity?”
“Yes.”
“Tell me about it! Even on the cross I preened like a peacock!”
I burst into laughter. “You certainly fooled a lot of people,” I said, still laughing at Christ’s surprising candor. “But not the Living Soul Master. He saw through the vanity of your mission to save the world and called you the boldest of peacocks. But that’s all water under the bridge, isn’t it? So, what are you doing here now?”
