Jordan had been humming along to a song by Gretchen Wilson when she looked up and saw Xander enter the club. At first glance, she was just surprised and happy to see him. He must have come to the club when he had gotten done with his business meeting and couldn’t find her at home. He’d probably read the note she’d left him on the kitchen table telling him she would be getting off at 10:00 p.m. and to come over to the club if he got there early enough.
At second glance, Jordan’s eyes had honed in on his right arm, which was extended out from his side and wrapped around a tall, beautiful, and buxom blonde who was standing at his side with an electric blue swatch of spandex that barely covered her surely silicone-implanted assets. Watching them as they moved across the floor together, she was struck by how well they seemed to move together and how comfortable they seemed with each other. Jordan noticed his fingers were nearly on the woman’s ass as he steered the blonde bitch to a table in the corner away from the dance floor. As they walked across the bar, several other patrons yelled greetings or stopped them to say hello. Nobody seemed surprised to see them together. Nobody but Jordan.
Jordan stared, transfixed, until Josie, one of the waitresses, called her name sharply to get her attention. Josie rattled off a drink order for one of her tables again. Jordan was still staring when Xander looked up into her eyes. His eyes went wide as he realized she had seen them. He quickly looked down as if in consternation that he had been found out. Jordan choked back the tears, turned away from the front of the bar, and numbly filled Josie’s drink order. She could barely think.
She couldn’t process it. Xander was here with another woman. Xander was on a date with another woman. By the reaction of the other patrons at the club, seeing the couple together was not surprising. This had probably been going on for some time. Xander had lied to her! He was seeing another woman! He was fucking another woman! Maybe more than just one! Still in shock, Jordan looked up into eyes so much like Xander’s yet now full of sorrow. Levi.
Levi watched her with a look of pity in his eyes. She could tell that he knew. Somehow, he knew that she was in love with Xander. He had obviously seen Xander come in with that strumpet and Jordan’s reaction to them. Not able to look him in the eyes anymore, Jordan looked down at her feet. She felt Levi’s approach and continued to look at her feet. Levi’s left arm looped around her shoulders hugging her gently to him. Softly, he said in her ear, “Go home, Jordan. I’ll tell Ryder you needed to leave and have him take over the bar.”
When Jordan started to protest, he just repeated kindly, “Just go on home.”
Silently, with tears in her eyes, Jordan walked quickly to the break room, grabbed her purse out of her locker, and walked out the back door of the club. Not recalling quite how she got there, she found herself at her back door, with her keys in her hand. Unlocking the door, she went inside and locked back up behind her. Without turning on any lights, she headed down the hallway and walked woodenly to her bedroom. Pausing only to kick the shoes off her feet, she crawled into bed and pulled the comforter up and over her head. Vicious sobs tore through her chest as she huddled there in the dark.
