During a struggle, Charles DeWitt, a settler boy, and Little Jake, a Native American lad, are transported from 1838 to the year 2000 by a bolt of lightning. They must overcome their differences as they face the frightening prospect of never seeing their families again.
The boys are befriended by Arnold Slider, a bike repairman, who has experimented with time travel; but when Charles is recognized from an old photo as a forefather to the Slider family, it becomes a matter of life and death to get them home. When their vehicle of transport is damaged, will they be able to return to their time?
