Charlie is as comfortable and a warm pair of gloves and as soothing as a hot mug of coffee and a freshly-baked bagel. Oh, and a good listener. So naturally Megan tells Charlie about her interesting new project manager, Brad,. Good thing Charlie's a good sport. He shows no temperament at Megan’s obvious crush on Brad. For another, Charlie keeps his own feelings for Megan closely under wraps. But for how long?
Excerpt
The next morning, she went into Charlie’s Bagels, and she didn’t even have to be at work early.
The bagel shop was empty and the aroma of coffee and bakery welcomed her like an old and sincere friend. Charlie spotted her through the glass partition in the back and came out.
“How’s work?”
“Never better. Business is booming.” Megan found a stool at the counter and savored the familiarity of the place. “I’d love a bagel and coffee. I’ll even pay for the coffee this time.”
Charlie grinned. “Looks like you’ve made up your mind about something. Something to do with work? Whatever it is, it suits you.”
“You got that right. It took some thinking through.” Megan glanced up at Charlie’s pleasant, uncomplicated expression, and remembered the time he’d come over to her grandparents’ place for a barbecue. He’d entertained all the nieces and nephews with just-invented ball games. The guy was a genius.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something for a while now, but you’ve been so busy with work.” Charlie leaned over slightly and faced her across the counter. “I have the weekend off. Would you like to go to dinner and a movie?”
“I’d love that,” Megan said softly. “Just make sure it’s a small out of the way, homey restaurant.”
