Danny averted her gaze back to the restaurant for a half a second when she caught the eye of a man sitting at a table by himself. His features were stony and hard, as if they had been chiseled from granite. His mouth was set in a grim line, and it looked like if he attempted a smile it would shatter his face. His skin had been treated harshly by time and the elements, evident by the crow’s feet around his eyes and the thick laugh lines around his mouth. His hair was dark and cut short, a severe military style crew cut. When he saw that she had caught him watching them, he quickly dodged her gaze. Recognition dogged Danny. Perhaps she had seen him somewhere on the island; Hawaii was full of tourists after all.
