A young Tsaeb warrior who is descended from rabbits is sent to investigate an incursion by a neighboring species.
Corr Syl the Warrior is the story of developing conflict between humans and the ancient multi-species Tsaeb civilization. When the Danog begin tentative forays across the border into Tsaeb lands, the Tsaeb send a young warrior named Corr Syl who is descended from rabbits to investigate and recommend a response.
To this point in his life, Corr Syl's only responsibilities have been given him by his parents and his warrior trainer. But now he is becoming interested in the beautiful but aloof Rhya Bright, and he is receiving unwanted assignments form his local district council. When Corr begins to investigate the Danog problem, he learns that spies have infiltrated his district, and he realizes that many lives are in danger. He catches a glimpse of something truly evil, and with no time to spare, recommends a plan that will end the immediate dangers, but that might start a war.

Ivan Johns, the new Mountainview City Manager, had one eccentricity. He cut his own hair in an uncommon style: short on the sides and long in the back. No one, not even his family, knew the secret it hid. Beneath the long hair, like a fat tick, a huge black widow spider clung to Johns' neck. The spider’s claws, webs, and the powerful chelicerae bracketing her mouth held her fast. Her hollow fangs reached deep into the City Manager’s flesh. In public, Johns appeared calm and relaxed. In private, the spider liked to let him beg and scream.

"There is really nothing more you can ask of a story than is found here in Corr Syl the Warrior. The pace is brisk and keeps you engaged, the characters are so believable that Lactella gives me the creeps long after I've finished, and I'll be glad to find what Corr and Rhya are up against in the promised sequel. I really appreciate the added feature of information about geography and plant and animal life. My copy was complimentary, but in no way does that bias my impression of Rogers' tale. Corr Syl the Warrior by Garry Rogers is something of a coming-of-age novel as a young warrior wins his spurs and is forced to grow up in the face of conflict. The characters, their special skills, and their talents are well developed. The action is full of suspenseful twists and turns as the plot unfolds, revealing not only the fate of the inhabitants of Tsaeb, but the fate of the young warrior as he is transformed. This is an imaginative work which does not lack in detail as the reader is drawn deeper into the story. The truly hardcore, sci-fi fan will be delighted and entertained by the pace and deep thought involved in this novel.
