A collection of incoherent thoughts and words in a poetic style
A flower of the lost garden is a collection of words, thoughts, and poems written in the hope of understanding the basic interactions of reality and perception, and how easy it is to confuse the two. The words in this collection were written at various times in my life over the last thirty or so years, and are presented in no particular order. In reading and rereading them I’ve found that though time and situations have changed, my fundamental confusion, and maturity level has remained the same.
Excerpt
A flower of the lost garden
In a distant woods
Beyond the reaches of the eyes of man
There is said to be a garden
In which is also said to grow but a single flower
Of this flower not much is known
For none have truly seen it
Through the ages
Many have claimed to know it well
Some have claimed to serve its beauty
While others swear to be its master
Yet none of them truly understand its veritable nature
For it’s the seed of truth planted in a fertile mind
Its stem is that stuff of which dreams are made
Its leaves are love and compassion
It blooms but once in a life time
With petals of wonderment, and imagination
And once in full bloom
Can never be said to die
Still a flower of the lost garden even when found
Like all things found can in turn be lost
And once the petals of wonderment and imagination wither and die
The leaves of love and compassion will fall
Never again will the seeds of dreams be sown.
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
