All that makes us greatly uncomfortable, like the scourge of extremism and its repercussions, is easily understandable, if one is to read the fundamental nature of life, a little differently: -- Mating, an indispensable part of evolution, actually consist of three parts, pre-union preparation, union proper or the exchange of gametes, and the post union unrest. All around the animal world, males are reluctant to participate in this pairing, due to the loud and clear anti-male ambience of post union stage. Therefore nature has to forcibly bring the male to the mating arena, circumventing the reluctance with the help of a dedicated season and other endearments through the female. -- The only escape from the dreadfulness experienced during the post union stage of every instance of mating, is to evolve to next species. -- New species therefore evolve, with more and more opportunities of allaying this dreadfulness, which amazes us by showing an “increase in complexity, as evolution moves ahead” -- In the case of the final species of life, man, the escape route is a two forked approach. One is a pre-emptive step. Stretch, whatever may be of interest to him, to its limits and immerse in it. Which is the origin of formalities, niceties and all forms of extremism, including the few that are a grave threat to happy living, and the many that are helpful, enjoyable or life saving. The other is to keep women always well suppressed such that if at all they express dissatisfaction, it shall not be crossing certain threshold of oppressiveness necessary to upset the man. However, discovery of VIAGRA has introduced a major non-linearity into the smooth flow of life, by having the potential to bring its facilitator, the dread of male female union, under human whims and fancies. This will in effect, render ‘all forms of extremes’, redundant, leading to unpredictable consequences. (When writing this book, I never thought the ideas presented here in a lighter vein will prove to be of great significance, more so to the present global happenings) Excerpt PREFACE Years back, I used to be working in airfields, most of them located well away from populated areas. In one such airfield, a newly commissioned one situated in what was once an idyllic and somewhat sleepy village, I was residing in a first floor apartment surrounded by vast areas of virgin fields thick with vegetation. At home, I usually could savor my wife's endless chatter, peeping into the wet, marshy meadows beneath, while busy in the kitchen. Mostly, “Froggy, Froggy, a snake behind you, scoot” often, “Oh! Stupid frog, I am yelling jump away, jump, still it gets caught” and a little less often, “Smart froggy, it listened to me”. Sometimes, she goes pontificating “I think many of the frogs are foolish. Once in a blue moon, a few among them listen to me and jump away in time.” I wanted see for myself the basis on which she classifies frogs into "foolish" or "smart" and started observing them closely. And she happened to be right, I could tell between two types of frogs, ones (the smart ones!) which took actions to catch prey as well as to escape from danger well in time, and the others which were always late and sluggish. Motivated by frogs, I ventured into lizards, one of the most common creatures to populate our buildings. And I could clearly differentiate between two types of lizards, one which shoots its tongue out at the most opportune moment and the prey is always caught, and the other which is always lethargic, prey managing to escape most of the times. With the next creature also, my experience wasn't any different from this. I could find two types of cockroaches, those which run towards you when you enter a room and the other that smartly run away to the safety of a dark crevice. (I could see that this particular phenomenon is mentioned in many related books. Everywhere, this peculiarity was attributed to the tendency of the cockroaches to get under the somewhat dark area created by ones shadow. For taking this into account, I watched these creatures with the light source positioned at different places altering the orientation of shadow, and observed no changes: there was no shadow effect! ) I was struck with such a remarkable variation in nature, which has not been widely discussed so far, in the character and living habits of all things male and female. And I was struck again with an unremarkable response such as the one I happened to get when searching for an answer. Whatever the area, one searched looking for an explanation or a reference, be it scientific journals, books or reputed websites, almost all answers pointed to the same refrain – evolutionary differences, otherwise termed as adaptations through natural selection and sexual selection, of traits that facilitate survival and reproduction. Put briefly, all of them exhort, if you accept that brains as well as bodies evolved, you will have to agree that gender related characteristics too (encompassing all other differences) evolved in both. This in essence is nothing but a veiled indication that the noticed oddity is due to the difference between the reactions of male and female to the same trigger. One set of reactions could be from the male of the species and the other, from the female, as suggested by those books. I could not find these answers sufficient enough, being still of the old school that would be comfortable only when a reason was found. The popular view that nothing happens without a cause, and for those with life, without a want, took the better of me. The want might be the result of ones instincts, intuition, reasoning, or of any other external or internal stimuli, but without it, nothing can occur with a living being. Therefore, I asked myself, what is giving all the creatures, a ‘want’ to react the way they reacted. Or, as most of the literature attributes the observed peculiarity of reactions to evolution, how does life get a ‘want’ to evolve? The cause or want in this case being hypothesized as the unexplored regions of evolution, I chose to go back to the sequence of events that take part in the progressive development of a species of life, with the hope of learning more about the purpose, composition and functions of ‘evolutionary differences’, the celebrated protagonist of this enigma. The rest of the story is about that search, which quite unexpectedly has opened up whatever mystery life was hiding, that made up the abstract, in addition to simplifying much of the imponderables, many of those keeping behavioral analysts and social scientists perpetually busy. One can find inside this, for example, plenty of explanations and cure for well reputed intangibles like extremism, chauvinism or fanaticism. And, all other forms of intolerance too shall fail to pose any baffling questions, after reading this book. And it was also a great loss to me, after completing the book, I couldn’t wonder anymore at nature as a collection of hidden secrets.

The author JT is a retired officer of the Indian navy and in his free time has often pondered over certain basic questions which haunt the daily aspects of our lives but which unfortunately we as humans have never attempted to answer. These questions include why is the male always in a hurry? Why is the male chauvinistic? Why is the male constantly at work? To avoid going home? And if yes then why so?

There are many books which have been written on the subject of evolution pondering over the basic question as to why we evolve. Well, the answer as we all know is quite simple – for the survival of our species. But it is to be noted that very few books or researchers have mulled over the question of our evolution is a particular way. So why do we evolve the way we do and why do evolution patterns are different in males and females? What are the forces which drive these basic changes in a man and a woman?

The author through a keen observational eye and strenuous research has attempted to find the answers to these basic questions which guide the most fundamental aspects of our lives. These along with numerous other deductions is what the book is all about. Moving on to the next part of the review, it is to be noted that the book will prove to be an interesting read for those readers who are interested in biology, evolution, topics of scientific enquiry and other such related subjects.

But for those of you who don’t possess that inclination, this book might appear a little academic to you. Though all of 65 pages, I myself took a lot of time reading it as I wanted to be sure that I was absorbing the most of what was written and needless to say that it thus took a reader like me some good amount of time. The book though written from a gender neutral point, will definitely amuse feminists and the fairer sex as it very scientifically proves the superiority of the same in many aspects.

The book overall is quite an interesting and insightful read and if read with full focus and concentration will surely help increase our basic knowledge of evolution and its consequences in a great way. The conclusions on the way in which our human race is headed is also scientific (and a little scary too) and would find reason even with an average reader like me. I thus recommend this book to all lovers of scientific enquiry and even will urge the non-readers to try it out once.

The unsure male reveals how female species across the board civilize Male. From the lazy frog, to protective lion and to the human man. The female to male unions are fearlessly observed and causes may be biological, environmental or even a progressive evolution. The Author calls this evolutionary disorder.
In his observations it was shown the female species, human included, quicker reactions,professionalism, punctuality and greater intelligence to name a few. Where as the male have tendencies to show aggression,carelessness and reluctance to perform. This is called performance deficit.In our culture places the male in the corporate world and suppress the female even though males are reluctant and productivity is less.

The Unsure Male: Final Answer to All Questions Unanswered by author JT is a book on human evolution. Indeed, according to the subtitle, the book touches on “The future of life, of the human race too.” Right at the beginning, the book raises the question: “Why has nature left almost all the important facilitators of male-female union to vagaries of individual choice, especially when the very consummation of the union is the most crucial and irreplaceable part of the continuation of species?” Then, the book follows up with other points, such as the “unprofessional” nature and the “performance” issue of the male.

Then comes the main contribution of the book, and this too I can resonate with. It shows that there is a “performance” issue in the male. To solve this issue, for those with high mental calibre, they immerse themselves in intense perception, learning and reasoning. For others, they use entertainment or drinking. Ah, this explains why there is so much drinking. But the spin on the solutions to the performance issue is surprising. The book suggests that this is an escape from the dreadful experiences during the post union stage of mating. Really? You see why I said this book offers an unorthodox view. This is also, of course, the “unsure male” the book is referring to.

I found this book thought provoking as it presents an unorthodox view on human evolution and the future of the human race. The opening question is indeed intriguing. Isn’t this the crux of human survival? I am fascinated by the demonstration that the nature of the male is “unprofessional” as compared to the “professional” outlook of the female. I have to say this sounds true to me, but how will the male’s ego take it?
