If you live, or have lived in a HOA area or community, everything that is written here has been proven solid as fact, even though it is a fictional story.
"Dreamland Drama: Retired, Rewired, and Refereed" is a laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life suburban comedy set in the sun-scorched streets of Dreamland Villa, a 55+ community in Arizona where retirement is anything but restful.
Meet Gordie, a retired cop with a sharp eye for security, a 100% VA disability rating, and a solar-lit flagpole that he proudly calls the neighborhood beacon. Alongside him is his fiercely opinionated and hilariously organized partner, Veronika D., a woman whose grumpy charm, OCD routines, and referee-striped thrift store shirt turn HOA politics into full-contact sport.
Together, they navigate nosy neighbors, rogue landscapers, uninvited guests, golf cart joyrides, and the occasional poop zone construction project for their dog Luna. But when the neighborhood drama spills into HOA elections, rising tensions, and turf wars over weeds and yard sales, Gordie and Veronika find themselves at the reluctant center of the action.
With a cast of quirky characters—like the flag-hating Margaret, Bible-thumping cousin Chelica, and Costco apple pie-loving Betty—this story captures the messy, meddling, and oddly heartwarming reality of retirement living in a tight-knit, tightly wound community.
From motion sensors and neighborhood patrols to passive-aggressive trash bins and spontaneous BBQs, Dreamland Drama delivers a comical look at life after 55, where the only thing more powerful than the Arizona sun is the HOA newsletter.
Absolutely, Gordie. Here's a draft About the Author section tailored to your Dreamland Villa book, using your signature tone — a mix of humor, grit, and lived experience.
Excerpt
“Yes, ma’am,” Gordie said, pushing himself up with a grunt like he’d been summoned to testify in court. “Shall I fluff your pillows or prepare your crown while I’m at it?”
“Pillows,” she said, “and one of those peppermint foot lotions I like. Also—no action movies tonight. I’ve earned an evening of soft plots and men who apologize.”
“God help me,” Gordie whispered.
He shuffled to the kitchen, poured her drink, and returned like a soldier returning from a supply run. Luna jumped up beside Veronika, placing her head on her lap like a supportive emotional support dog who totally forgot she was the reason for the fencing in the first place.
“Now,” Veronika said, stretching like a cat who won the day, “you get the foot lotion. I’m gonna start the movie. Tonight, we’re watching Letters to Juliet.”
Gordie raised an eyebrow. “Is that the one with the woman crying in an Italian vineyard over a guy who ghosted her in 1965?”
“That’s the one,” she said, smiling. “Get ready to feel your feelings.”
Gordie sighed and rubbed his temples, but deep down, he didn’t mind. It was the price of love, comfort, and a wife who could take on weeds, scorpions, HOA reps, and cocky landscapers all before lunch.
