She thought about going in, but the idea of stepping across the floors of the bowling alley without him kept her weighted in behind her steering wheel. They were once a fixture there. The couple that folks wanted to see. The couple that folks loved to hang with. They had made such a cute pair. But, now they were over. For three years, at least once a week, there they were in Richmond's West End at the Sunrise Lanes bowling alley playing a round of three games. Even during the course of her busy week, she loved it. They danced to the music, shared nachos or wings, drank a beer or two, and were quite merry. Over those years, they also maintained a tally of the games between them. Considering that she'd been bowling since she was rolling the ball to the duckpins at seven, she was ahead by several. First, Rice has a fantastic sense of humor! (Don’t believe me? See if you can manage not to choke after reading the also-known-as *insert periodic table* bit.) Second, it’s downright impossible to review this book, without “spilling tea.” Let me simply say – Read It. This book has sass, deceit, folks with sense, folks with no sense - but great fashion, twists, turns, and the ability to leave you wanting more (I mean there's no way he…she…can get away with this, right? *mopping tea*) It’s not easy to write about your hometown without reading as though you have been issued an official City Tour Guide Badge and the author pulled it off with literary Instagram appeal. Grab this for your indulgence moments or directly after calling-in a little late due to an unforeseen “emergency” (finishing the last few pages on your iphone does constitute.) It’s certainly something Francisco (or Ann?) would do!
