A nice book full of Swashbuckling Pirates
A nice book full of Swashbuckling Pirates, Captains, crooked magistrates, slave traders and damsels in Distress. It s a romance at its heart and as such I found it to be a tad predictable in the plot flow but the story was still enjoyable. I was able to follow along and really connect with Atia and her losses, first her mother and younger brother who perish in the shipwreck and then when she is separated from her sister Livia. I also liked the selflessness of the doctor throughout the story as he rushes to try and save people who are hurt, or doomed by their illness to die and being poor the majority of his patients cannot pay him but he helps anyway. This was a heartwarming character for me, not many of these are seen in these types of books. This book is the first in a series and it does well to set the stage for the next books to come.
A love story that begins with a shipwrek followed by the suffering of two sisters
After taking a quick look at the cover and the title, I wasn't quite sure about what the novel was going to be about, and on the other hand, the synopsis gave me too much information so I got lost at some point.
The plot basically deals with a 1869 shipwreck after which two sisters, Livia and Atia, manage to survive. But things don't go perfectly well for the two of them- they arrive to Port Royal in Jamaica, and they are kidnapped to be sold to become slaves. After being separated, their mission will be to survive and get together again.
The writing style is attractive and rich, and the author managed to make it realistic and believable through character and plot develpment as well as some details such as the clothes and language of those times.
My thumbs up for this novel!
Swashbuckling Adventure Series
“No Quarter: Dominium” (volume one of six in the series) by authors MJL Evans and GM O’Connor is a pirate adventure genre read. This book follows two sisters, Atia and Livia, as they are shipwrecked, sold into slavery and separated; each into dangerous situations. Atia and Livia must defy all odds and persistent dangers in order find each other again. Book one in the series nicely introduces the cast of colorful characters, explains the backstory, sets up the overall plotline and gives the readers a sense of where the story is headed.
Readers should note though, that the series does contain foul language, sexual situations and other crude humor (just wanted to note that). Otherwise, I think fans of pirate adventure and epic storylines will find a lot to like here.
