Terra Nova Corporation is the worlds richest company, and wants to transport humans to Gliese 581G, but in order to do so it must build Prometheus, the first interstellar vessel capable of light speed so humans can get to Gliese within their life times. The only way the vessel can reach light speed is by utilizing a revolutionary new propulsion system called Dark Matter Drive which has been invented by the brilliant and beautiful Doctor Maria Maravilla. Doctor John Smith who works for Terra Nova Corporation is tasked with building Prometheus, and he is having great difficulty in getting the complex physics of Dark Matter Drive to work and needs Maria’s help. Maria's interest in Prometheus becomes more than just scientific when she meets Doctor John Smith who is quite mysterious. Excerpt
Maria just came back from Geneva where she bitched out Doctor Paul Hazwell for reject her latest Physics paper in one her infamous tirades. Doctor Hazwell is the director in charge of CERN. Doctor Jonas Prescott is the President of Princeton University where Maria is a full Professor of Physics. Jimmy and Paul are two of Maria's graduate students. Christine is Mara's best friend.
Maria, Paul, and Jimmy get called to Jonas office after he see’s the video of Maria on the internet, they're sitting in chairs in front of Jonas’s desk which he’s standing behind.
Jonas, “Ok, you three, you’ve disgraced the University, it’s bad enough you were all drunk, but on top of trying to verbally attack Doctor Hazwell, Maria, that is totally unacceptable!”
Jonas points his finger at Maria, and she sinks lower into her chair. Paul and Jimmy then follow her, sinking lower into their chairs.
Jonas, “And why did I send you two boys with her, could you please tell me what I told you both before you left, what was the most important thing!”
Paul, “Don’t let Maria drink Mojitos!”
Jonas, “Yes! And how many Mojitos did you have Maria?”
Maria sinks lower into her chair, looks at Jonas and says, “Five, maybe.”
Jimmy, “She had Eight.”
Maria hits Jimmy.
Jonas, “Five maybe Eight, what in the hell where you two boys doing, how the hell could you let her drink eight Mojitos!”
Jimmy, “Well, it wasn’t just Mojitos Sir.”
Jonas, “What do you mean!”
Jimmy, “We we’re doing shots of Tequila also.”
Maria hits Jimmy again, “You idiot!”
Jonas, “Tequila shots also, well I don’t want to know how many!”
Jimmy, “Four, two each.”
Maria, “Jesus, Jimmy!”
Paul, “Yeah shut up man!” Paul then sinks lower into his seat.
Jonas, “Can you all please sit up straight in those damn chairs, I feel like I’m talking to children here, Oh, I forgot that is what I’m talking to children!”
The three of them sit up straight in the chairs.
Jonas, “Thank you.”
Jonas, “Ok I’ve heard enough, both you boys are getting extra Teacher Assistant hours for this little escapade, and their’s some maintenance that needs to be done on the Princeton Accelerator, the three of you are going to do that maintenance, understood!”
All three of them, “Yes.”
Jonas, “Jimmy, get out of here, you can go! Paul, what am I going to do about you?”
Jimmy quickly leaves Jonas’s office.
Paul, “I’m sorry Doctor Prescott. I should have watched Maria more closely.”
Jonas, “Paul, this, and your Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity is starting to wear on me. Please try and make this the last time I see you this semester!”
Paul, “Yes sir. This will be the last time, I promise, you have my word!”
Jonas, “Ok, get out of here, and I do not want to see you again all semester!”
Paul stands quickly and exits Jonas office quickly, Maria tries to follow.
Jonas, “Maria I’m not done with you, sit back down.”
Maria slowly walks back and sits back down in her middle chair, and sinks into it.
Jonas, “Can you please sit up in your chair!”
Maria, “Sorry.” Maria sits up in her chair, and adjusts her blouse.
Jonas, “You know who called me this morning?”
Maria smiles, “One of the regents?”
Jonas frowns, “No! Doctor Paul Hazwell, Maria!”
Maria, “Oh.”
Jonas, “He was not happy Maria, he’s been left trying to explain to his supervisors what happened, because everyone has seen that damn video of yours! And he wants an apology, and you're going to give him one.”
Maria, “I can send him an email.”
Jonas, “No, you're not sending him an email! You're going to have a video conference with him in this office next Thursday at 10AM, and you're personally going to apologize to him, with me mind you. Understood!”
Jonas, “Ok, Maria you can go, I’m done with you until next Thursday, I want you in this office at 9AM”
Maria, “But if the video conference is at 10, why do I have to be here at 9?”
Jonas, “Because together, we’re going to spend that hour to figure out what exactly we’re going to say to Doctor Hazwell. Understood, you better be hear at 9AM Maria!”
Maria, “You're treating me like a child.”
Jonas, “Because concerning this latest episode, that’s exactly how you acted dear, a child, a mature person would have never gotten drunk, and then in a raging tirade called Doctor Hazwell a sexist pig, no my dear those are acts of a child. And don’t tell me you didn’t do it, I’ve watched the video a thousands times. At first I refused to believe it was even you! For a woman with an IQ of 250 sometimes you act exceedingly stupid I must say. You’ve out done yourself this time Maria, you really have! You need some anger management classes Maria!”
Maria realizes Jonas is right, she looks up at him and with her big blue sorrowful and pitiful eyes says, “You’re right Jonas, I’m so sorry. I’ll sign up for some classes first thing.” She then blinks her eyes at Jonas.
Jonas, “Don’t use your pitiful ploys on me Maria, and don’t tell me your sorry, tell Doctor Hazwell, next Thursday Maria, 9AM, sharp, don’t be late, none of this I’m always late crap either, and I haven’t had my morning espresso, I don’t want to hear it. Now get out of here!”
Mara get’s up and says, “Your so rude, I was trying to apologize!”
Jonas, “I know all your little ploys Maria, I’m very disappointed in you, leave my site before I have you escorted out of my office by campus security!”
Maria, “You’d call campus security on me!”
Jonas, “Yes, stick around for another 30 seconds and I’ll prove it to you!”
Maria storms out of Doctor Prescott's office, glares at Doctor Prescott before she leaves, and slams the office door behind her, its high noon, her high heels tapping loudly on the tile floor in rapid succession, she seemingly can't walk any faster, her hair is blowing in the wind created by her brisk walk. She's furious, and mumbling in Spanish how she was treated like a little girl who misbehaved, how could Doctor Prescott disparage her with no respect, after all she was full professor at this University, and deserved some respect.
A voice from down the hall can be heard, and says, “Maria." It gets no response from Maria who is still reeling in her self inflicted torment. Christine decides to say it louder this time, "Maria!"
Maria hears her name, she's still boiling mad, her eyes open wide, and she screams at the top of her lungs, "What!", she stops dead in tracks, throws her arms to her side, clinches her hands into tight fists, and does a military about face in her high heels, her piercing eyes glaring down the hall ready to incinerate anything within her glare. Two students in the hallway almost walk into each other they're so startled by Maria's scream, and quickly exit into a class room.
Christine can see that Maria is having a bad day, not wanting to upset her further, she feels a timid response is in order so she silently says with a quizzical smile, "Wanna go to lunch?"
Maria see's that it's Christine, the anger in her face fades away immediately, her big blue eyes begin to water, and tears start to stream down her cheeks, "Oh Christine I'm so sorry." She then says loudly, "Yes, Yes let's go to lunch!"
Christine hugs Maria as they meet, and whispers, "Don't worry girl, it's going to be all right."
Christine had seen the video of Maria in Switzerland at CERN where she had one of her more spectacular tirades with Doctor Hazwell, the video had gone viral on the internet, Maria was also being voted the most beautiful Professor in the social media world, yes it certainly was one of Maria's most famous temper tantrums only this time unfortunately it was for the whole world to see.
Christine says, "How about Starbucks, I've got some coupons, and I hear they have some great new sandwiches."
Maria says, "Sure Starbucks sounds great, do you think they'll be crowded?"
Christine knows Maria is conscience about being seen in public, "No Maria, it's never super crowded there for lunch, most people go else where."
Maria, “Can you pay? I’m short again.”
Christine, “Why are you always broke when we go to Starbucks?”
Maria, “Because we always go to Starbucks. I’ll pay you back, I promise, it’s just I had to pay some bills this month.”
Christine, “Maria you make more money then me, and you own the worlds cheapest car. It’s not even the end of the month yet. What do you spend all your money on?”
Maria, “Clothes.”
Christine, “Clothes! You’re got to stop this Maria, I’m not kidding! You’re spending too much money on clothes!”
Maria, “Shoes too, they need to match you know! You can’t buy the dress without the shoes! I get depressed if I don’t buy clothes.”
Christine, “Where are you buying all these clothes, that you spend so much money?”
Maria, “Legacies, in downtown Manhattan.”
Christine, “Maria! That’s the most expensive clothing store there is, are you nuts!”
Maria, “They have the best dresses, not to mention shoes!”
Christine, “Ok, I’m not even going to ask how much you owe Legacies.”
Maria, “Seventy five thousand credits.”
Christine stops walking, and looks at Maria, “Maria, I didn’t want to know! Jesus.”
Maria, “Oh, sorry, I thought you asked.”
Christine and Maria start walking again, and Christine says, “No wonder you’re always broke. Ok, let’s change the topic, and I’ve got your lunch, and you don’t have to pay me back.”
Maria smiles, “Thanks, you’re my best friend Christine. I want you to know that.”
Christine, “And likely your dumbest also.”
