A dark figure suddenly sprang at Dave from out of the rubble. The club leaped from his hand as if it had a mind of its own, knocking the ape-like creature to the ground. The beast jumped back to its feet, let out a howl, and charged. Dave’s club swung at the creature's head, and this time it fell to the ground and did not get back up.
Another creature leaped at him from out of the rubble. Dave stepped to his right and swung his weapon as hard as he could. The club connected with the beast's head, sending it sprawling to the ground.
Dave swung his head up to see a much larger creature with a mesh net dangling from its outstretched hands racing toward him. This creature wore armor and a crude helmet. Hair covered the creature’s forearms, hands, and face. The creature snarled in rage, showing fangs dripping with saliva.
