In 2013, while Nancy was busy with family, friends, work, and appreciating a grand life, she was hit right between the eyes with the reality of a dreadful diagnosis of diminishing memory. Nancy wonders why she hadn't given AD an honest-to-goodness thought before then? After all, in 2002 her father passed away from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Blue.River.Apple.
Today's journey:
Develop courage,
Splash on a smile,
Be who I want to be.
Not afraid of who I am becoming..
To awake at night, fearful of forgettting
Important and precious things like ...
People. Dates. Times. Appointments.
I am not in control. Please help me, God.
(an excerpt from poem book: Blue.River.Apple.)
Nancy's approach is not giving in to fear and frustration, but to finding solace and hope by becoming a partner in her own health. Believing also that communication is key, she shares her insightful views in order to help others--perhaps someonoe you know, people diagnosed, their in-home, or professional caregivers?
Nancy is a motivational speaker and advocate for Alzheimer's disease, and other forms of dementia. She writes "reality poetry" to enlighten a difficult subject, always leaving hope in the mix. Who do you know that knows someone who needs a "emotional hand up" and a possible "how-to manage"?
