Operational Effective Leadership
(Living by being and doing)

Complete (Gr. epiteleō) here denotes to accomplish perfectly – accomplish (Rom. 15:28 - RV), perfectly (2 Cor. 7:1), perfect/perform (Phil.1:6). It also means “to fit out (most fitted),” to finish completely (2 Tim. 3:17).
Leader denotes a guide literally or figuratively. Figuratively speaks (John 16:13) of guidance into the truth of the Holy Spirit. To rule the household, guide the house – the manager or director of household affairs.
- A leader is one having the authority to direct, the principal, one who goes first for others to follow, a conductor or a chief commander.
- So the complete leader is the complete, fulfilled, full, filled, accomplished, exactly right, thoughtfully furnished, perfect performing leader
So the effective Christian leader:
Must accommodate and adjust to the new and changing demands of leadership. Examine your role and apply the required skills.
- Update your leadership skills in keeping with biblical principles and current technological tools of applied leadership. Analyze and assess your leadership potential and styles and make the necessary adjustments in line with the tenets of our faith. Flowing with the cloud of glory and change, listening to the direction of the Holy Spirit and not your old self and style
A responsive, resourceful and complete Christian leader must analyze access and adapt to the changing demand and nature of leadership. Relying on the Holy Spirit visualize:
- New developments, experiences and expectations.
- Extra demand on your life and time.
- Appointments of associates, assistants and new workers.
- Mentoring and empowering faithful followers.
- In our Leadership role communication, communion, cooperation, collaboration and team spirit are of utmost importance.
Effective Christian leads people – raw materials and resources in people, undeveloped talents and latent knowledge, expertise and unharnessed potentials. It is your call to search them out, and bring out the best that God deposited in your people.
- The effective functional leader must also lead non-human resources in decision making, planning, missions, programs, policies, finances, problem solving etc.
- Effective leaders must recognize that the success of their goal or projects or task depends on their understanding of the importance of the people and their work with and through them. The ever growing technological world today and specific and particular environments determine how you will pursue your course and vision. Every effective leader inspires, motivates and stimulates your team to achieve maximally and optimally too
Michael Hyatt listed five characteristics of authentic and effective leaders as
- Authentic leaders possess insight.
- Authentic leaders demonstrate initiative
- Authentic leaders exude influence
- Authentic leaders have impact
- Authentic leaders manifest integrity
Let us discuss, expand and look at these attributes:
- Authentic leaders possess insight: Discernment, perception, vision, understanding and more is needed for effective administration and leadership role. So every authentic, realistic leader is dependable and must have knowledge (have facts or information), understanding (comprehend knowledge) and wisdom (apply knowledge).
- Authentic leaders demonstrate initiative: Effectiveness in leadership demands the ability to be proactive, take the lead, initiate moves, and be resourceful in resolving conflicts and problems. Paul and some of the disciples exhibited traits in their reactions and relationship with the Sadducees and Pharisees. Do not sit on the fence or behind when situations demand prompt actions, reactions and practical involvement. Effective true fearless leaders do not pass the bulk nor wait especially in times of emergency but act and lead by example. Example is better than precept and prevention is cheaper or better than cure they say.
- Authentic leaders exude influence: Influencers are the trend and are worth listening to. They do not only affect people but effect changes, impress the Lord and express the process. They affect their environment and create positive effects on their followers. Influencers are role models that followers look up to. They attract the people and provide leadership.
- Authentic leaders create maximum impact: Change they say is constant and effective leaders bring change. They are world changers with maximum vision impact. - Authentic leaders manifest integrity: Integrity, honesty and truthfulness will greatly cement and authenticate or certify and qualify every effective leader. Without integrity you will rubbish whatever impact, influence, initiative, insight or achievement you make. The people and God are watching. God demands holiness. Secret sins kill. Every Christian leader worth his or her salt must live what you preach. When people sin they try to coat and cover the weight with sweet words like lack of integrity. God calls disobedience or illicit sexual involvement sin. Sin is sin.
The basics of Christian leadership: The more you surrender your life to Christ and the Christian practice the more you grow and as you grow in his green pasture you will begin to glow. Living in his presence you will shine and develop to a leadership position to serve your family, your peers, your church and community. How do you grow into a responsible and trusted leader or Christian worker?
Bob Robertson’s article through Share Faith blog listed some basic leadership styles. Leaders he asserted are “People of high integrity, high ideals, and a high regards for their fellow men. They have the ability to empower those around them to lead better and live more productive lives, inspiring trust and fellowship in their communities.”
Bob mentioned 5 basic leadership styles common among great men as
-Vision
- Management
-Team Leading
-Encouragement
-Risk-Taking.
Let me explain and analyze his thoughts
Vision: Leaders can see, define, and predict the future course of their plans and members. Visionary leaders are men of the next generation.
Back then when John F. Kennedy proclaimed to send people to the moon he acted as a visionary leader. He was not playing God but was acting out his faith that with God all things are possible.
-Daniel read by the books (Daniel 9:2) of God’s will for the Israelites and acted accordingly. Visionary leaders must be creative and resourceful in organization.
