As a teenager, he got a story of witchcraft confession made by a middle-aged widow. The widow mentioned one of her little boys as a little wizard she initiated into the craft. The boy is Manuel's little pal in the neighborhood. Manuel bullied the boy, adding threat of murder to coerce the boy to bring a single coin from a black pot full of coins in the coven (Manuel had over-heard some drunks talk about the existence of such a coin in covens). For fear of being murdered by Manuel, the little boy eventually succeeded at bringing a coin from the coven for Manuel, beating a keen eyed wizard guard of the pot of coins in their coven. Every night the coin generated what was like a bullion-van load of U.S. dollars and other currencies neatly arranged in a hidden vault for Manuel within his home. He only needed to create footprint to account for the money he took to banks daily... His life changed in fortunes; his life also changed from normal: He was having strange experiences and apparitions both day and night and could not sleep at night whenever the coven that owned the coin was in their nocturnal sessions: he was linked to the coven through their coin in his possession. As someone who lived in Africa, this story resonates well with me. From voodoo to magic and witchcraft of all shades, the reality is that psychic forces are alive in Africa and there is no limit to the use that these forces of are deployed by their practitioners. But one law of Nature or the other in our usual world is breached when magic is utilized to achieve a certain end. And as Manuel found out in this story, the only laws man can successfully break are the ones he created and not those of Nature. Manuel's dependence on witchcraft to create wealth is in breach of the laws of Nature and comes with dire consequences even upon the most wary transgressor.
