A young woman flees from the corrupt,"Big Brother-ish" government in an apocalyptic era to search for her family. Accompanied by a mysterious, Bible-quoting little girl, Sera Obi sets out on a dangerous journey that will test her faith in ways she never dreamed of.

But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation . . . then let them that be in [the city] flee to the mountains. —Jesus Christ (Mark 13:14, KJV)

In Sera Obi’s apocalyptic world, telecommunications have been all but incapacitated, except for the government’s newly-developed, invasive surveillance technology. While Sera prepares to flee her city to escape the increasingly anti-Christian legal system and to search for her missing family, a mysterious little girl shows up at her door. The child, Esther, speaks only in Bible verses—and she just might be the world’s last hope to have the written Word restored.

With only a hand-drawn map to guide them, the girls set out on a 100-mile cross-country trek through the back-of-beyond forests, facing dangers at every turn. From assassins to wild animals, to a treacherous mountain path that could prove to be their final impasse, their perils are matched—and countered—only by the Scriptures the girls quote. As Ms. Obi discovers, it is no small thing staying the course, and no easy task remaining faithful to . . . The Vision.

Even though she has read these headlines and bylines many times in the past several months, Sera can still scarcely believe her situation has come to this. The newspapers and magazine clippings spread across her small writing table make one thing quite clear—it is time for her to leave. As she flips through the only full magazine
in the stack, a photograph flutters from its pages. Sera sets it aside with barely a glance, so involved is she in studying the print-media information.
It is not until she has pored through every article again that she remembers the picture. Running her hand over her close-cropped black hair, Sera studies the photograph. In it, a little girl poses with a trophy, her parents to one side of her, and a young man to the other side, all of them smiling broadly. A nostalgic smile comes over Sera’s own round face.
“I remember you, little one,” Sera says fondly to the girl in the picture. Leaning back in her chair, Sera closes her eyes in sweet remembrance. “And I also remember the Bible verse that entered you, the perfect dark horse, on the journey to that first-place prize. Revelation, chapter 3, verse 20. ‘Behold, I stand at the door, and . . .’”

Right at that moment, as if on cue, a knock comes at the door, cutting Sera’s reminiscences short. She jerks her head toward the door, whispering the final word of the phrase, “. . . knock.”
The knock comes again; this time, more insistent.
Sera hopes the person outside cannot hear the fearful tremor in her voice as she calls out, “Who’s there?”
In response, the knock comes a third time.
“Coming!” the girl manages to yell, mustering all of her courage. She hurriedly slips the photo inside a back pocket of her cargo trousers and shoves the papers, press cuttings, and the magazine together. She throws the stack into the bottom drawer of her hope chest from which she had taken it and pushes the drawer shut. As she hurries to the door, she glimpses her reflection in the mirror. Will whoever is outside her door be able to see the guilt in her large, dark eyes?
Sera peers anxiously through the peephole to see who is standing there. It is only a little girl, about eight years old, with the same chocolate complexion as Sera’s, and long hair worn in bunches. The little girl clutches at the collar of a raggedy dress that offers scant protection against the chilly morning weather, but she seems to be shaking from fright rather than the cold. After what Sera assumes to be a fearful glance behind her towards the street, the girl turns to fix a wide-eyed gaze at the door, as if she can sense the young woman behind the mahogany panel. Those big, trusting eyes—and the fact that the child is wearing those shabby clothes, standing in those wet shoes, and looking so bedraggled, so lost—all combine to convince Sera to throw caution to the wind and open the door.
“Hello, there,” she greets the little girl, offering an encouraging smile. “Is there something I can do for you, sweetheart?”
The child does not say anything. She merely lifts her eyes, full of pleading, to meet the young lady’s. Minutes later, she is seated at Sera’s reading table with a steaming cup of tea and a plate with bread in front of her.
Sera stares nervously out the window until the sound of police car sirens trails off into the distance. She then closes the blinds and walks past her young visitor to plunk her back end on the bed, the only other place available for one to sit in the studio flat.
“I am Sera. Sera Obi,” she introduces herself in an attempt to get the little waif talking. “May I know your name, please?”
The girl’s answer sounds something like “a star.” Sera interprets the name as “Esther.”
“So, tell me, Esther,” Sera begins, slowly and softly, so as not to frighten the child. “Where are your parents, or guardians at least?”
When there is no reply, Sera gestures toward the bulging backpack on her bed. “As you can well see, I’m all packed, ready to leave the city. And I’ve just had my RFID chip most ingeniously removed, and it’s hidden here in my flat for when the authorities come looking.” Although Sera tries always to speak with humility, she can’t keep the smugness from her tone as she reveals her strategy to the child.
She has no fear in revealing her secret to Esther, for it is obvious the child does not have an RFID chip in her, either. Both the girl’s forehead and the palm of her right hand are smooth and unsullied. How the little girl had managed to avoid the tagging, only God knows, since babies are now implanted with their chips at birth. “To know where everyone is at each point in time, so they can be protected,” the authorities explain, echoing the lies of that shell-company face of the Antichrist team, the CIT/ASR Corporation.
Since nothing she has said evokes a response from the little girl, Sera gets to her point. “Well, I only want to know if I should be taking you back to your family before I leave.”
Esther pauses in her eating and, without looking at Sera, finally speaks. “And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.”
“Isaiah 59:14.” Without thinking, Sera supplies the scripture reference for the Bible verse the little girl has just quoted. She gives a sad smile of understanding. “I take it that your parents or guardians are gone, no doubt killed in the Struggle.”
What a shame this child is left all alone, thinks Sera. Speaking more briskly, she announces, “It’s a foregone conclusion that I’m not staying here in this city one more day.” Giving vent to her outrage, she begins a diatribe against all the atrocities of these past few years, not considering that her words might be lost on her young “audience.”

There had been AI, automatons, humanoids, corruption of the human genome and the biosphere, even of plants and animals, through chemtrails, transgenetics, the whole nine yards of Xenogenesis. And there had also been “Big Brother”, the one “all-seeing eye” secret spy camera that was the whole time fed mostly from the cell phones that people had thought were the handiest of modern conveniences, among other things. All before the EMP. And after that, this silicone microchip.
But now, there’s the BioChip also, coming to augment its silicone predecessor—and bring about the actual trans-humanization of mankind. This BioChip is designed to not only alter the recipient’s DNA, but also, if possible, totally replace it with the triple-helix DNA of the two-parts human, one-part “Nephilim” Natas bloodline that it is rumored to carry. This height of unconventional technology is to be the last straw, the ultimate affront on global Christian consciousness. You see, when that happens—if that ultimate defilement that will transform humans into “unredeemable” hybrid monsters, half-human, half-robot, succeeds—it is going to be a real-life “planet of apes”, a world crawling with true avatars, or even with The Walking Dead kind of zombies, out here finally.
There, now, if one losing one’s humanity by getting some teeny-bitty electronic capsule “inserted” into the brain, and getting permanently zoned under the influence of the MK Ultra "cyborging" that it holds, isn’t receiving the mark of the beast, then Sera doesn’t know what is.
And she isn’t sticking around to find out.
“No, not another day!” Sera shakes her head a few times, tsk-tsking as she does so, to emphasize her point. Then she asks, “So, which is it for you: Stay back here and take your chance with the CIT/ASR Police, or come with me?”
This time, Esther turns to look Sera straight in the face. “Psalm, chapter 11, verse 3,” she pontificates. “‘If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?’”
“I get it,” Sera replies at once, warming up to this whole Open Bible thing. “‘With law and order gone, what can the righteous do but flee?’ There, now, you’re coming with me, aren’t you?”
For an answer, Esther smiles and bows her assent. And then she returns to the meal before her.
