“I must stop global warming.”
The tones were deep and rich and could hardly seem to emanate from a young attractive woman in a two-piece bathing suit. Before Fred knew it, his own voice had responded, “I must stop global warming. . .” Breathing more and more deeply with eyes closed, he failed to notice the gleam that appeared in the eyes of the purple mannequin seated in the rocking chair before him. From somewhere a Drum Circle sounded, its thumps rising steadily in his ears soothing his soul and calming him as wooden flutes joined in. Louder and louder the drums sounded, faster and wilder the pipes played—then abruptly stopped...
The mannequin’s knees creaked as it slowly rose from the chair. The gleam shone like a second sun, its vision alive with energy and thought, flesh gathering to its limbs as from some ethereal source until no observer could distinguish it from anything human. Fred the mining construction engineer out for a brief beer and few nine-pins took a step and looked down upon the decayed remnant of his former life. Even as he watched, the clothes crumbled inward, no longer meeting resistance from a body, the clothing masking nothing.
Snapping out a hair-brush, Fred passed it quickly over his new thick shoulder-length brunette hair, stylishly waved.
“Thank you, girls!” said his deep voice. “I’m one of you now!”
