Miokoy's Will is the story of a family torn apart by World War II but reunited by a terminal illness. Miyoko's Will transports Tyler to Hiroshima where he learns about his Japanese heritage, discovers himself, and falls in love.

On January 6,1945, Miyoko and her mother Setsuko are on a train pulling

into Hiroshima station. Little Boy ignites, destroying 90% of the city and

immediately killing 80,000 people.  Miyoko and Setsuko  survive with minor

physical injuries.  Setsuko's subsequent overprotectniveness drives Miyoko

to flee to San Francisco where she enrolls in college.  She meets Lincoln.

They marry and have a son, Tyler. Due to Miyoko's health issues,

they relocate to Fort Lauderdale, where her condition improves.

When Tyler turns 30, Miyoko's health deteriorates again. Setsuko flies from

Hiroshima to care for her daughter.  Miyoko passes away due to her myeloid

leukemia condition.  Her Will directs Tyler and Setsuko to carry her ashes

back to Hiroshima for interment in the family shrine.

In Hiroshima, he meets his granducle Isama and Tomoko, a family friend.

They bond during visits to Hiroshima's historical sites.  The city still shows

scars left behind from Little Boy's visit fifty years earlier.  Tyler discover the

Japanese part of his Heritage, falls in love, and finds a special way to honor

his mother.

I am currently seeking the services of a  literary agent to help me get

Miyoko's Will  published.  I am writing a sequel.

Excerpt

On July 14, 1962, my mother, Miyoko “Mai” Akiyama, whose name translates to “beautiful child” arrived in San Francisco. A long, exhausting journey from her home in Hiroshima. A week before the move, she told her mother, Setsuko, “snow child”, she enrolled at San Francisco State College. Setsuko completely lost it. She assumed her daughter would attend the Hiroshima Institute of Technology. Why was she abandoning her family and the country of her birth for America, their worst enemy?

Mai said it was because she wanted to learn about Americans through her eyes and not based upon what she heard or was told (primarily by her mother). She planned to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in American literature. She didn’t tell Setsuko her Uncle Isamu was paying her way. My grandmother told me she knew damned well he was because her daughter had no other source of income.
