Elias had been spared by the help of a stranger who would turn out to be someone Elias thought was long dead, but it would be awhile before his family knew the truth, and with that truth, many deceits were exposed.    William could sense that something was amiss, and he took Jerek to the ‘School of Slayers,’ where young warriors were taught the way of the Clan, but what Jerek learned in the bog was much more than how to shoot a bow. He was now a part of the ‘Dark Ones.’

Elias is a Slayer. As much as he wants a normal life, for his family and for his son he knows he can do nothing to stop it. Slaying is in his son’s blood, just as in his. Someone must to protect the mortals from the forces of darkness. When confronted by the fiercest of beasts, to save his son’s life, Elias decides to sacrifice his own.

Jerek, the son, has visions of his father that won’t allow him to believe Elias is really dead, and he is right. Elias has been spared. When William, the immortal Guardian, senses something amiss, he tales Jerek to the ‘School of Slayers,’ where young warriors are taught the way of the

Clan. But the school is more prison than place of learning with some deadly secrets within. Now with the help of another thought long dead, Elias must find his son before it is too late and before Jerek’s training in the bog becomes more than how to be a Slayer. Elias must succeed in order to prevent Jerek from becoming a part of the ‘Dark Ones.


Although I couldn’t see how the title fits into the storyline, this book has a lot of action, imagination and deception. It is well written with good strong plotting and excellent dialog. I really liked it up until the end. Unfortunately the end being ‘to be continued” left me a little disappointed. While I’m all for an author leaving the reader wanting more, I’m not really fond of books that don’t have a discernible ending. The book did end in a way to leave the reader with an idea of what’s to come in the next installment, but I still needed more. In any case, it was very good.
