(ON A JOURNEY)
...When I was eight years old, my family traveled to Tyler, Texas, to visit my paternal grandmother and for my father to handle his business. It was a long ride! I got my hand caught under a very large and heavy trunk and cried out in pain, as my father was driving on the freeway one evening. Despite my father’s request for my mother to grab hold of me, my mother gently refused, even though she understood my father’s frustration and my immediate pain, and despite my father’s request to silence the screeching cries, yelps and moaning. Oh! The love of a mother that protects us in times of adversity (def. misfortune: hardship and suffering).
…During our continued travels, in route or returning from Tyler, Texas, while in the State of Arizona, I almost dropped my youngest sister (Stephanie) into a pit of snakes. This included rattle snakes, at a road side tourist attraction. Fortunately, a lady, a complete stranger, grabbed her out of my arms and saved her life. I’m not sure what my father’s reaction was to that!
