What is art, except an earnest effort by an individual to express to others what his or her experience of life is like. If the artist is successful, it is because others too have experienced life like that. This, then, is a book about my experience of life from 2005-2009. All poems and prose were written during that time – right in the thick of an intense and unexpected spiritual awakening. As late as 2002, I still thought of myself as an atheist. But I’ve come to realize that Spirit doesn’t really care what you think. Or, for that matter, whether or not you believe you’re ready to be awakened...

"The Eye of the Storm"
I always thought that to reach that next level I needed to go higher – to soar above the pettiness of being human. To ascend meant to disengage from my life, to vibrate higher and higher toward a constant state of bliss that removed one from the messiness of emotions and the give-and-take of relationships. To break free of the bondage of human birth and death meant detaching oneself from one’s situation in life.
I was informed by the Universe – in a rather rude and heavy-handed manner – that my thinking was in error. You do not graduate from earth by being less human, but by being more human. You do not go higher, but deeper. Deeper into the sorrow, the anguish, the shame, and the doubt. So deep that you drown in an ocean of your own bitter tears. And it is then that grace takes over – lifting you up, breathing new life into you.
It is a journey of healing, of transmuting any darkness back into light. It is not a lesson for the faint of heart. It is a lesson for those who will accept nothing less than complete liberation.
