Hopeful Eyes
Large eyes black as coal smiling at me
The little chocolate hand resting on my palm
So much pain, discomfort and sadness
Yet a smile reaches both corners of the lips
Revealing pearl white teeth that chattered with The slightest breeze
Many questions invade my thoughts
still looking at these eyes tell me all questions are Obsolete
For as long as these eyes and tender hands reaches Out
I’ll be there to smile back and take hold of a life that
May not have been!

Echoes of an Era ~ Book Review
Echoes of an Era is a 112-page debut book of poetry written by Mary Muhammad.
Right from the start I had a strong sense of female companionship and family ties between Mary and her sister, daughters and her amazing mother. Through her poetry readers will see her religious convictions.
Echoes of an Era; is not a religious book however. Powerful moments of love, friendship and loves gained or lost are evident in her poetry. I particularly enjoyed "I Could" and "F-Tree". Many readers will appreciate the poem "You Are Never Alone" in which Mary comforts those who have lost people around them and find themselves feeling alone. "Retired Evening" captures one of those precious moments in life that we often vainly strive to re-capture. "My House" was a memorable piece on the joys and havoc of motherhood with a light humorous feel that had me smiling.
Mary Muhammad's poetry scheme is free-style. Interestingly, She was inspired by an upbringing filled with stories, and poetry - though her greatest inspiration has been her mother, "the strongest woman I'd ever seen" who raised 12 children, 4 of whom she raised alone.
Echoes of an Era were certainly an interesting and compelling read.

Echos of an Era is a very good book. It allows the reader to feel what the writer has written. The poems are deep and the reader can easily relate to them. The poems also have a great sense of humor without straying off course of the hidden messages.

Poetry is putting the author’s feelings into words that will convey their meaning to the reader. This author does that and more. Her poems take your emotions from love as in Sister and Mother. Mary shows an enjoyment for the world around her in her writing, she has a pride of self that shines through each of her poems.
This is a book that should be kept out on the coffee table and read often. I give it 4**** very bright stars.

This is a book of free verse poetry that addresses the seven main tests in life and offers some sensible solutions to passing those tests with minimal discomfort.
Inspirational poetry, written from the heart and soul. Verses that are well-suited for reading on a rainy day and that are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
