“Guardian of My Heart” takes place immediately following “Crystal,” however any of the books may be read independently. In this novel, the Guardian Shalina captures Branick—who is a relative of the Dryden family and the scientist that found the way back to Careen’s world—believing he murdered her only brother. Despite Branick’s claim of innocence, she is certain she has abducted her brother’s killer and is determined to take him back to Guardian headquarters for execution. The problem is that along the way, another Guardian tries to steal her prisoner in order to gain glory for himself. Very quickly her ally becomes her enemy, and her prisoner becomes her ally. To further complicate matters, she falls in love with Branick. Now she must choose between her life long dream to become a fully acknowledged Guardian, or to disgrace her family name, risk execution herself, and side with the man she loves.
