When five city born and raised men decide to have an adventure by going in search of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, the most deadly area of the United States, their adventure quickly becomes a struggle for survival.

Clay Morgan and four friends, born and raised in the city of Los Angeles decide to have an adventure by
going in search of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine in the deadliest area of the United States - the Superstition
Mountains of Arizona. Anything that can happen, does happen to these men. They encounter life threatening
situations from nature, the terrain, wild animals, and even man.

When wealthy rancher Paul Rockford discovers them near his marijuana farm high in the mountains, he sets
out to scare them back to the city. When they don't scare, he decides to kill them. They manage to get to the
sheriff, only to discover he is in cahoots with Rockford.

Watching from the sideline is one tough and deadly lady, Big Alice Hatfield, saloon/brothel owner at the base
of the mountains, who is determined to have the Lost Dutchman for herself.

Excerpt

Once again they advanced further into the cave. The light beam struck
something white.

"Jesus! It is bones!" Clay said, casting the light around. "More bones!"
He moved closer to get a better look at them. When he did, his heart
sank. He could see they were too small to be human. Finally the light
fell upon a skull. Clay looked up. "Well, this definitely is not human.
Must be from a goat or sheep."
Clay glanced at Calhoun. He was standing back a ways watching them.
He had a big grin on his face. Suddenly, it dawned on Clay that they
had been made fools of. His face grew hot with anger. He lit Calhoun
up with the light. "You bastard!"

Before anyone could react, a terrifying roar filled the cave. Clay swung
the light upward in time to catch the gleam of white teeth in the mouth
of a mountain lion ready to pounce on them.

Screaming and yelling at the top of their voices, everyone ran for the
cave opening.

The lion leaped and caught Ken, slamming him to the ground. Growling
and clawing, it tore at his flesh. Ken screamed and beat at the lion with
his fists as he struggled to keep it from getting to his throat.

Jim Conover's middle name could be Adventure. The Pekin man is a retired cop, a partner in a private detective agency, and a treasure hunter. In other words, adventure does not have to bite Conover on the butt for him to recognize it. Conover proves convincingly he knows adventure intimately in the pages of his second book, a freshman fiction effort, Greenhorns and Killer Mountains. The book, set in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, is a page-turner worthy of the time it takes to cover its 429 pages. It's a fun, modern American Western romp. Conover's strength in this volume is weaving adventure with character development. The characters come to life quickly and are developed in such a way that the reader can identify with them. The adventure at times seems a bit overblown, but, once into the book, you won't care. The pace is so fast there is hardly time to consider whether the scenario before you is completely feasible. This book is about total escapism within characters that everyday men and women can identify with. The folks in this book are what they seem, and, at the same time, more complex than they appear early on as the book progresses.

Look out Jim Conover is on the scene!

Reviewer: Jan from Pekin, Illinois This book is fantastic. I
absolutely loved. It's a great treasure hunting adventure with charactersso colorful you know every one. I couldn't put the book down and when I did I felt like I had stepped out of a movie theatre, not put a book down. If you don't read another book this year, read this one, get to know Clay Morgan and Big Alice and feel as though you've been to the Superstition Mts. in Arizona. This book holds your interest cover to cover. Can't wait for his next book..

EXCITING!

I read Greenhorns & Killer Mountains coming home from Mississippi on a bus trip. I was so interested in the story I wouldn't even get off the bus at the rest stops.
