Conflict, from a Hollywood perspective, can be a rather savory morsel. These conflicts, regardless of their complexity, are generally resolved within 1 to 3 hours. The bad guys get their punishment, the credits roll; we go home. But reality is much, much messier; conflicts are rarely resolved within 3 hours. It’s just this messiness that my book, "The Art of Forgiving", an amalgamation of memoir, sermon, and manual explores. The Art of Forgiving begins with a reel from my own life -- the challenges in making a young second marriage work, which eventually ended in divorce.

“For the record, let me give you my perspective of forgiving and forgetting. Forgetting doesn’t mean that you have a mental block and the memories of your life are just washed away, never to remember again. But what it does mean is that the pain, hostility, hatred, strife, envy, jealousy, grudges, and tears, that were once associated with the incident no longer governs your life. You don’t cry every time you think or talk about it! You don’t fall to pieces when you see the offender nor do you fight a bout of depression every time you think about what he/she did to you. You don’t make present and future decisions based on that past situation. In my book, the process of forgiving is likened to painting well, which calls forth another image, that of the masters copying the Master. Many believed that if you didn’t copy; you couldn’t advance. The same holds true for forgiving. It requires practice; it requires copying.”
