Ed Tanner is the consummate con artist, but is down on his luck, having been scammed himself by a party girl. As he strolls the streets of downtown Houston trying to dream up another caper he tosses a quarter into a Salvation Army Christmas Pot -- and does a double take at the angelic young woman ringing the bell. Thus begins the biggest scheme Ed has ever imagined: God's Fan Club. Violet Smith joins willingly, believing that most of the donated money will go to charity, but Ed is funneling it to his crooked lawyer as fast as it comes in.
